Literacy

Reading

This term, we will be reading ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl. We will be developing our comprehension skills using the 6 comprehension strategies and we will begin developing our answers to literal and inferential questions.

Pupils will also be encouraged to read for enjoyment, participating in ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class) time.

Writing

This term we will be explore a variety of genres.  We will start of with some personal writing and character descriptions from our class novel.

Spelling

Pupils will continue to explore Active Spelling strategies using Stage 1 and Stage 4 of the SAC OCTOPUS programme.

 

Numeracy and Maths

This term we will be exploring:

  • Addition – up to 4 digits
  • Subtraction – up to 4 digits
  • Data Handling
  • We will also continue to develop our mental arithmetic by taking part in daily ‘Number Talk’ sessions.

Health and Wellbeing

Our focus this term in HWB will be friendships and relationships.

Physical Education

In PE, we will be developing our skills in attaining possession to score points/goal/tries in possession games such as Basketball, Netball and Handball.

We will also be working towards moving our body/ an object creatively in space, through gymnastics and dance.

 IDL

This term we will be using our novel “Fantastic Mr Fox” as a stimulus for our IDL topic.  We will use ICT to research foxes and other woodland creatures.  We will draw/paint foxes using a range of mediums in Art and Design.   We will create factfiles and posters about farming and the dangers involved to animals from predators.  We will create our own vehicles using Knex and other STEM materials.

MUSIC

We will be experimenting with Garage Band on the Ipads to make music using different instruments.

Closer to Christmas, we will be learning a song to perform at the Carol Concert.
