Numeracy and Maths

This term, we will be spending lots of time learning about different addition and subtraction strategies. We will be using number bonds, fact families and number stories to help build out confidence in adding and subtracting numbers.  We will also be learning how to lay out our jotter to use the ‘upstairs, downstairs’ method af addition and subtraction. Later in the term, we will practice carrying and exchanging numbers through trickier sums.

We will also be covering money this term, where we will utilise our addition and subtraction knowledge to help us add and subtract money, and give change.  Later in the term, we will also be learning about forms of measurement (length, mass, volume and area).

Literacy

This term, our writing will be focused on the narrative genre. We are really looking forward to utilising all of our learning about adjectives to help us write some interesting stories. We will be learning about introducing characters and setting to help us build a story. Later in the term, we will be learning how to use speech marks to create dialogue in a story.

We are also going to be learning about fiction and non fiction texts, and comparing these to understand the differences. We will also be using these texts to help us build our comprehension skills using the ‘find it/prove it/talk about it’ strategy!

We are also regularly practicing our weekly phonemes and exploring these through a variety of active literacy activities. We are also going to participating in ERIC Time (Everyone Reading in Class) where we will be able to enjoy the books we have chosen from the library van.

Topic

Our topic this term is Habitats.

Throughout our topic, we will be learning about the characteristics of various habitats which accommodate different plants and animals. We will be learning about what habitats provide to help their residents thrive, and also how living things have adapted themselves to their habitat! We will be utilising ICT this term to help support our topic by carrying out research tasks.

French

This term, we are focusing on counting in French, and being able to say the days of the week and months of the year.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. This term we will be learning about racket skills.
