Numeracy

 

In Numeracy, we will be learning covering a variety of topics. These include:

 

 Estimation and Rounding

• Exploring when to round 2 digit numbers up and down by deciding which 10 is the closest
• Using our knowledge of rounding to estimate the place of numbers on a number line
• Estimating answers to 2 digit addition or subtraction calculations using rounding)

Number and Number Processes 

• Exploring numbers beyond 100 (
• Recognising and writing 2 digit numbers in words
• Placing numbers on number lines and talking about its’ position.
• Numbers before and after beyond 100
• Ordering and sequencing numbers beyond 100
• Recognising odd and even numbers
• Partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and units (HTU)
• Recognising number patterns

Data and Analysis

• Tally Marks
• Sorting information
• Tables, charts and diagrams
• Constructing and displaying table and bar graphs to show information
• Venn Diagrams

Chance and Uncertainty

• Understanding what terms such as more likely, least likely, possible, impossible, chance and uncertainty mean.
• Making predictions
• Recognising and using phrases such as likely, probable, unlikely,
  certain, never, possible and impossible.
• Predicting how likely an event is to happen using language such as more/less likely

We are also looking forward to taking our learning outdoors this term! 

Literacy

In Literacy, we will be learning about common and proper nouns. We are also going to be learning about verbs and adjectives. In writing, we will be covering recount writing and descriptive writing. We are looking forward to showing off our knowledge about our dinosaur topic using descriptive writing.

We are also regularly practicing our weekly phonemes and exploring these through Active Literacy activities.

We are also looking forward to taking our learning outdoors this term! 

 

Health and Wellbeing

 

In Health and Wellbeing, we will be learning about all our different emotions and that it is healthy to feel lots of different emotions. We will also come up with different strategies for dealing with our emotions. We will also be learning about the people who help us in our communities and are becoming more aware of who we can go to for support. Later in the term, we are going to be focusing on internet safety to help us stay safe online.

 

Topic

 

Our current topic is Dinosaurs. We received a huge surprise when news reporters interrupted our lesson with a breaking news message from a palaeontologist asking us to work on a top secret mission to learn all about dinosaurs. We will be enjoying learning about different dinosaurs such as the T-Rex and Stegosaurus, and will be learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We are also looking forward to learning about fossils and where dinosaurs lived. We will be also be having great fun exploring our dinosaur topic through play!

Expressive Arts

 

In Art, we will be exploring shape and pattern to help us design our own dinosaur eggs. In Music, we will be learning about rhythm and tempo using Charanga and are looking forward to practicing our knowledge of these using real instruments!

Languages

In French, we will be learning how to use basic greetings to engage in a conversation in French. We will be learning how to introduce ourselves and to use the appropriate phrases. We will also be leaning how to say the names of colours in French!
