TERM 3 2023/2024

Scots Studies

We are starting 2023 off by learning a Scots poem called ‘Fireworks aff the Castle’ by Matthew Fitt which we will be performing as a class in front of the whole school at assembly.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we are continuing to practice subtraction strategies. We have worked so hard in term 2 that we are ready to try some trickier sums! Later in the term, we are going to be learning about fractions (halves, quarters, thirds and other mixed fractions) and time (showing quarter to/past and 5 minutes past/to). We will also be learning multiplication and division strategies. We will be using our knowledge of repeated addition, equal groups and arrays to help us learn the 2, 4 and 8 times tables!

Literacy

In literacy, we are going to be focusing on instruction writing where we will be learning to sequence events and use time connectives/bossy verbs to create clear instructions. Later in the term, we will having a little look at different kinds of poetry, using our senses, onomatopoeia and alliteration. We will also be using learning about persuasion to help us write persuavive texts. We will also be learning to take shorts notes to create plans.

We will also be practicing our weekly phoneme and using lots of different methods to help us learn them! We are continuing to build our comprehension skills using ‘find it/prove it, talk about it’ strategies! We will be using a variety of non fiction texts to locate information and important facts. We are also learning how to use a thesaurus to help us find synonyms for words!

Topic

This term, our topic is Castles. We will be discovering more about famous castles across Scotland through art, technology and music. We will be putting our research skills to the test using the laptops to find out more about castles as well as creating our own mottos and coats of arms. We are looking forward to becoming experts!

 

Modern Languages

This term, we are continuing to learn french. We are learning to say different animal names!

Homework

This term, homework will stay the same. Every child should complete their spelling homework (copy spelling words and choose 2 activities from the updated grid), practice their reading book and complete their maths sheet. Sumdog practice is encouraged where possible but there will be plenty of opportunities for this in class!

Physical Education

This term we will be learning ball skills, including basketball and football!

PE Days

Primary 3A will have PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday On these days, pupils should come to school dressed in their trainers, school jumper/polo shirt and joggers/shorts/leggings. They should not wear any jewellery to PE so it would be best to remove piercings at home prior to coming to school. No football strips are allowed as part of the PE kit.
