Power Down<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n So far this year we have had an ‘Hour Down for Power Down’ where the classes were challenged to not use electricity for an hour during the school day. We have achieved all of our windy parts as of May 2025!<\/p>\n We have also completed tasks within classes about Earth Day, P4a and P4b made their very own Earth Day promises!<\/p>\n Windy even came to visit Primary 1-3 which was a super fun time! The pupils were all able to tell Windy\u00a0 how to save power in the school thanks to our Clean Green team handing out signs to every class.<\/p>\n The classes even designed their own Power Down posters, some of which were turned into a calendar for some of the extra busy months…<\/p>\n Our Power Down Certificates<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n TRAVEL<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Shoot to Saturn<\/span><\/p>\n The Shoot to Saturn Initiative aims to promote active travel within East Ayrshire. This means children and their families are encouraged to walk, cycle, scooter, skate, park & stride when getting to school or work, etc.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n A big thank you to everyone who walked, ran, cycled….you did it!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n JRSO has worked hard to promote a Walk to School Week alongside\u00a0 Living Streets Travel. Here is the plan of action for the week!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n NATURAL ENVIRONMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n We will also be working towards achieving the new Nurture Nature award to support the children awareness of the wonders of the outdoors.<\/p>\n Come back to find out what we get up to!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We planted poppy seeds & larkspur, which attract both butterflies and bees!! We will be transferring these into the planters in our school playground.<\/p>\n We have used recycled materials to make puffin portraits similar to Paul Bartlett.<\/p>\n We have also made our own Wind Socks and done some cloud watching!<\/p>\n The outdoor club have been working on making our planters brighter by planting flowers and greenery on Tuesday afternoons! Thank you all!<\/p>\n Bird Feeders have also been planted around the playground thanks to our wonderful pupil group!<\/p>\n WASTE<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Recycling:<\/p>\n We have been working on using recycled materials in our work throughout the curriculum. Classes have been using recycled bottles, paper, etc. to complete class projects.<\/p>\n P4 made Shadufs from recycled materials at home!<\/p>\n P5 made Viking shields out of old cereal boxes…<\/p>\n P1 used paper plates to create Paddington portraits too!<\/p>\n Litter-picking:<\/p>\n At lunch time staff involve the pupils in litter picking to keep the playground clean & tidy!<\/p>\n James Hamilton Primary & Sgoil na Coille Nuaidh are working towards achieving their next Clean Green Award.
