Term 1 Outline

This term we are looking forward to making new friends and learning together after not seeing each other for a while. We are quickly learning how to keep ourselves safe in school and following all the new procedures.

Literacy

This term we are going to be learning lots of new joined phonemes using the Active Literacy approach. We will be working in pairs to spell and share our ideas of spelling rules. We hope to improve our handwriting and form all our letters correctly.

We are going to be writing some great descriptions of dinosaurs related to our topic. We will be working on using capital letters and full stops correctly and using exciting vocabulary. We hope to extend the length of our written work.

We are going to learn more about the features of non fiction texts during our dinosaur topic. We will learn to use the contents, index and glossary correctly.

Numeracy

During Numeracy this term we will be working with practical materials to learn more about place value. We will be sequencing numbers, using 100 squares, partitioning and learning in pairs. We will be learning half past, quarter past and quarter to times on analogue clocks. We hope to start matching analogue and digital times.

During Number Talks sessions we will be encouraged to share our ideas and learn from each other. We will make sure we use the correct hand signals to communicate our answers. We will be partitioning, rounding and exploring how to represent numbers to 100 in pictures, numbers and diagrams.

Health and Wellbeing

Our focus this term in class is building and forming relationships as we settle back into school. We have missed each other so much during lock-down and the holidays. We will be using lots of fiction story books to help learn about feelings and emotions and use them to talk about how we feel.
