This week’s focus has been on long multiplication.\u00a0 We can all use the grid method to solve calculations like 72 x 938 but now we also know how to use long multiplication, where we solve 2 x 938 and then 70 x 938<\/strong> before adding both answers together, as shown in the calculation below.\u00a0 The challenging part has been remembering to place zero when multiplying by the tens digit!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n We have looked at autobiographies and biographies to find out their similarities and differences.\u00a0 Then we had a go at using our own words to paraphrase\u00a0 information about John Muir to create the introduction of a biography about him.\u00a0 Did you know he was a keen conservationist who was born in Scotland?\u00a0 Ask us more about him!<\/p>\n We also read the next chapter of ‘Dark Isle’ and worked with our learning partners to summarise the story so far and make predictions about what will happen next.<\/p>\n Interdisciplinary Learning<\/strong><\/p>\n More learning has taken place about rationing during World War Two; we created timelines to show which items were rationed and when – soap, clothing, petrol and coal were rationed, as well as some foods and other items.\u00a0 Our math’s skills were tested when challenged to design a ‘Victory Garden’ where we had to draw a plan using the scale 1cm = 1m.\u00a0 The aim was to ensure as much space to grow vegetables as possible, as well as space for: chickens, rabbits, fruit trees, a green house and an Anderson shelter.\u00a0 Look out for some photos of our super designs next week.<\/p>\n We also discussed what it would have been like to be evacuated to the countryside, like more than 3 million children were.\u00a0 Everyone has been taking a turn to help contribute to our display which will show two evacuees,\u00a0 this has required drawing and painting skills being put to good use.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Take care everyone,<\/em><\/p>\n I hope to see you all back next week.<\/em><\/p>\n Mrs Johnstone<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As always, we have had a busy week, packed with a variety of different learning experiences.
