Today we were learning how to add adverbs into our writing through a range of active activities. An adverb is a word that describes a verb. We found today that most of them end in ‘ly’. Have a look at our hard work.

Thank you Mr Ryan
A big thank you to Eoin’s dad who came in this afternoon to talk to us about his job as a civil engineer. After this week I think there are a few boys and girls who might like to do this job when they grow up.
Construction Fun
This afternoon to round off a fun week we used our own imagination and construction materials to come up with our own designs.
Layered Liquids
Today we carried out a ‘Layered Liquids’ experiment. We added oil, coloured water and syrup to a cup. Instead of mixing, the liquids layered on top of each other.
“The syrup is more dense than the water and the water is more dense than the oil” – Charley Allan
”The oil floats on top because it is the lightest liquid. When it is the lightest it’s the least dense”. – Charlotte Speirs
Sharing Our Learning with P1/2
Today we worked with P1/2 to share our STEM week learning. First their class visited ours and we worked with them on the ‘Bubbling Wizard’s Brew’ experiment. We also told them about our dissolving mini topic.
Next we went through to their class and worked with them on electricity and floating and sinking activities. We made electrical circuits and tried to make boats that float from plasticine.
It was so much fun sharing what we have learned, thank you P1/2!
STEM Homework
Thank you to all of the boys and girls who brought in things that they have made this week for their STEM homework. Well done to you all!
Riverside Museum
Today for our STEM trip we visited the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. We had great fun exploring the museum looking at how transport has changed over the years. We even had time to run around outside with our friends and have a look at the tall ship in the River Clyde.
“My favourite bit was when we saw the big trains.” – Ellie Alexander
“I liked when we went outside to the ramps.” – Charley Lightbody
“My favourite part was playing with Laughlan, Andy and Callum outside.” – Mark Wilson
“When me, Miah, Anaya, Emily, both Charleys Ellie and Megan made a Ninja Warrior course outside.” – Freya Ahrens
“Running about in the playground.” – Dex Robinson
“I liked looking at all of the vehicles.” – Anaya Rana
Dissolving
As part of STEM week we have been doing a mini topic on Dissolving for science. Today we learned the difference between dissolving and melting and the difference between a soluble and insoluble material.
We investigated which materials dissolved in cold water.
Next we carried out a fun experiment called Bubbling Wizard’s Brew. We added vinegar, food colouring, a sprinkle of glitter, washing-up liquid and baking powder to a cup. The baking power and vinegar reacted to make bubbles of gas which caused our mixture to fizz and erupt.
Coding
This week we have been exploring coding as the Technology part of STEM week.
What is coding?
“You can control something using a remote, a steering wheel, peddle or touch screen.” – Alex Thom
“It’s instructions that you give to something for it to follow.” – Anaya Rana
What did we do?
We had a big discussion about what coding is and what it is used for in everyday life. Then we had lots of activities to explore coding. We were able to make our own castle game that felt like we were inside a video game. A friend had to ‘code’ us by giving clear instructions to reach the castle. We also used Beebots and gave them instructions to move them around the mats. We explored code.org on the laptops which has lots of fun coding games. On the iPads we played on the Beebot app. We had a great afternoon!
Dundonald Road
As part of our Scotland topic we looked at the landscape around us and discussed what it was used for. We picked out key features such as, Gargieston school and nursery, Rugby Park, The Park Hotel, Howard Park, Beechwood Nursery, churches, the Sheriff Court and the Police station. Then we worked in teams to build our street. Today we described our street in our writing. Which features can you spot?
