Today Mr Houston came to talk about our School Values – Honesty, Respect, Kindness and Ambition. We shared with him how we have been living our school values and what we have been doing to demonstrate them in our own lives.
He thanked us for being fabulous ambassadors for our school and praised the work we do in our leadership roles across the school.
Mr Houston also told us how important it is to carry our school values with us as and be true to our own identity and core values as we move on to high school.
Howard Pitman, a Park Ranger from Dean Castle Country Park came to talk to us all about his job and how to identify wildlife in our gardens. He taught us how to use footprint tunnels and night cameras.
Our favourite part of the visit was holding the different skulls and meeting Fiona Fox (who was an example of taxidermy- not real, so don’t worry)!
Today we enjoyed a visit from Derek, Craig and Adam from. Scottish Power Renewables. They told us all about their jobs and shared their knowledge of renewable energy with us. We enjoyed playing the fossil fuel or renewables game. We even got to try on some of the equipment.
Today we had a visit from Carol Kane from Vattenfall who came to talk to us about climate change.
We learned about the impact fossils fuels are having on our climate and what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint. Carol shared what Vattenfall are doing by expanding wind and solar power projects across Europe.
We enjoyed using the VR headset to explore inside a wind turbine and learn how it works.
P7 Led the whole school Scottish Showcase family friends and invited guests. We are proud of Fenwick Primary and ECCs children’s amazing talents. We were treated to songs poems and dances.
Primary 7 used their leadership skills to host the morning. They also had their own Burns Supper in between where we heard the Selkirk Grace, the haggis was piped in by our talented p7 Piper. We then listened to the Address to the Haggis. Then our laddies toasted the lassies and the lassies gave their reply. Gracie wrote the immortal memory and gave a confident recital of it. what a talented class we are!
Today we had a fabulous day of learning with a visit from Stewart Finlay who is the Chairperson for the Kilmarnock branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.
As part of our WWII topic, we asked him to help us research the names on the Fenwick War Memorial from WWII.
Stewart visited us and brought us the information about who every name was, where they had fallen during WWII and where they are buried. He had found stories about all the men and where they had come from in Fenwick and what regiment they belonged to.
We learned that two of the soldiers are buried in the cemetery in Fenwick. This has inspired us to visit their graves and take flowers for Armistice Day.
Stewart also brought along his medals and some jackets worn by veterans after the war in the 1950s. Stewart shared his knowledge with us and stories of his life in the army.
We were all really engaged by the stories that were shared and they have inspired us to research some family members that Primary 7 have who also fought in WWII.
