P7 Visit from Stewart Finlay

P7 Learning in our Community

Today we had a fabulous day of learning with a visit from Stewart Finlay who is the Chairperson for the Kilmarnock branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.

As part of our WWII topic, we asked him to help us research the names on the Fenwick War Memorial from WWII.
Stewart visited us and brought us the information about who every name was, where they had fallen during WWII and where they are buried. He had found stories about all the men and where they had come from in Fenwick and what regiment they belonged to.
We learned that two of the soldiers are buried in the cemetery in Fenwick. This has inspired us to visit their graves and take flowers for Armistice Day.

Stewart also brought along his medals and some jackets worn by veterans after the war in the 1950s. Stewart shared his knowledge with us and stories of his life in the army.
We were all really engaged by the stories that were shared and they have inspired us to research  some family members that Primary 7 have who also fought in WWII.

P7 150th Anniversay Launch

Well done to our amazing House and Vice Captains. They spoke with confidence and pride  during the launch coffee morning for our school celebrations.
Primary 7 sang ‘We’ll Meet Again’ by Vera Lynne to the audience to represent our decade of the 1940s.
Many guests commented on how impressed they were by how confident and respectful our Primary 7 representatives were during the morning.
Well done everyone!

P6/P7 East Ayrshire Cross Country Event

East Ayrshire Primary Schools Cross Country 2024

We have been invited to participate in the East Ayrshire Primary Schools Cross Country 2024 event in November (subject to securing transport). As part of this process we will be holding heats with all P6 and P7 pupils on Friday the 11th October and Tuesday 22nd October.

Can we ask that all children come to school with a full change of clothes in their bag to use for the cross country heats in the field. The heats will take place regardless of weather and/or condition of the field so children may get wet or dirty (please keep this in mind when packing their change of clothes and shoes for these dates). Further updates will be posted in due course.

P7 Bikeability Level 2

Cycling Scotland Bikeability 2

Primary  7 successfully completed level 2 bikeability after 5 days of cycling over the last month. Thanks again to Lynsey Murphy our Active Schools  Coordinator for helping Mrs Ross to deliver these sessions on the roads in Fenwick

Bikeability Level 2
takes place on single lane roads with simple junctions and moderate traffic, after a rider has successfully demonstrated level 1 skills. Riders learn to make good and frequent observations, communicate their intentions clearly to other road users, decide on and use the most suitable riding position, understand priorities on a road and make decisions about when people wait and when people go.
