Literacy
Book Week Scotland
This week has been packed full with visitors reading a range of texts to our class. The pupils have enjoyed listening to different people, including Mr Risk (reading a chapter from our class novel, The Titanic Detective Agency), parents (Mr Wilson, reading The Book with no Picture and Mrs Mitchell reading some of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes), and Councillor Freel (reading a chapter of The Boy at the Back of the Class).
The class also had their final visit of the year to the East Ayrshire mobile library where most pupils selected a new book to read for enjoyment whilst in school. They enjoyed some relaxed independent reading following this.
Throughout the week, the pupils have also enjoyed some partnered reading opportunities followed by class discussions about what they have read. We also had some confident pupils in the class who are part of the Reading Schools Pupil Committee who went to other classes to support with reading for enjoyment.
They also enjoyed a visit from Detective Fleming and PC Rae from Police Scotland along with Amy from I Am Me Scotland who came along to launch the new book, ‘My Police on Patrol’ which explores the different jobs that Police do. As part of this visit, the pupils participated in a fun filled assembly where they listened to an audio book, cheered on their House Captains with a bit of a CSI challenge and then got to visit a crime scene investigation to discuss the roles that the police play when attending these.
