P6 – Children in Need Activities

HWB: Children In Need Day

Today Primary 6 participated in a range of activities linked to Children in Need.

Bear Pong
They started the day off with a fun challenge of ‘Bear Pong’ where the pupils had to keep track of their points and add up their totals (each cup had a different amount of points that the children would earn if they got the ping pong ball into it).

Same but Different (Inclusion Focus)
The pupils then watched some clips on the BBC website about children who have specific needs. They watched a clip about a child with asthma and another about a child with dyslexia. The children in the clips discussed what made them different from their friends and what challenges they face in their daily lives. We then discussed what makes each of us the same as the people around us (comparing to our friends or family) and what makes us different or unique from the people around us.

STEM Challenge
The pupils were tasked with creating a parachute that would allow Pudsey to gently fall to the ground. The pupils worked in pairs to agree upon which resources they would use to create their parachute. Available resources included, scissors, sellotape, napkins, tissue paper, sandwich bags and lengths of wool. As a class, we then tried out each of the parachutes and learned that when the surface area of the parachute was bigger (but not too heavy) air resistance acted against the gravity that was pulling the parachute down towards the ground and allowed Pudsey to gently fall however the parachutes that had smaller surface areas and were heavier resulted in less air resistance acting against them therefore gravity took over and Pudsey fell to the ground with a THUMP!

P6 – House Challenge

House Challenge
Ambition

Last week, our house captains and vice captains planned and delivered a Kahoot quiz all about Bonfire Night. They visited each of the classes and gathered the pupils from their house to participate in a Kahoot. Some healthy competition and a chance for each of our houses to boost their points for this month! The P6 pupils were very competitive and full of excitement throughout the duration of the quiz – an excellent way to motivate and encourage ambition in our school!

P6 – Ski Academy

HWB:PE
Ski Academy at Newmilns Ski Centre

P6 have been enjoying their ski lessons at Newmilns. We have already seen independence, confidence and resilience grow in leaps and bounds! The pupils can now get their ski boots and skis on independently (a challenge in itself) and they were skiing down part of the slope whilst completing fun challenges such as head, shoulder, knees and toes.

Can’t wait to see how they continue to grow and develop throughout this amazing opportunity!

To finish off, Primary 6 had lots more fun tubing!

P6 – Bikeability Level 1

HWB – Bikeability Level 1

Well done to our P6 pupils who participated in and passed their Bikeability Level 1. A huge thank you to Lynsey Murphy from Active Schools who came along to support Mrs Wilson with the delivery of this. The pupils had lots of fun and it was excellent to see a growth in confidence as well as abilities throughout the day. All of the pupils seem excited about progressing onto their Bikebility level 2 training.
