P5/6 Hampden Trip

Today we had  a fantastic trip to Hampden Park.

Read  all about our  day of learning:

Striking Herstories

https://www.scottishfootballmuseum.org.uk/

We started in the Scottish Football Museum where we were excitied to see the real Scottish Cup . We then visited all the stops on the Striking Herstories Trail, exploring and learning all about the history of Women in Scottish Football. We enjoyed looking at lots of the interesting artefacts and interactive activities.

Stadium Tour

Next we took a tour of the stadium and visited the underground roadway where the team buses arrrive. We went to the home and away changing rooms (we all changed our shoes in here so that we could say “we got changed in the Scotland Football Team changing room”). We loved entering the stadium to the “Hampden Roar” and then being presented with the Scottish Cup! Thanks to Jim and Andy for telling us so many amazing facts and Megan for making sure our day was captured on film!

AR26 / Brain Health STARS Training Session

https://www.ar26.org.uk/

Ronan from AR26 came to take a FIFA training session. We learned different strategies to use rather than heading the ball. We really liked spelling out the word BRAIN in teams, passing the ball to the correct letter. Euan, Mrs Ross’s son,was also there to help with this session as a football player and coach.

Sophie from Brain Health Scotland came to talk to us all about our Intergenerational Topic and she was super impressed with our brain knowledge and how to prevent brain disease and take care of our brains using the STARS approach.

Katie and Seamus from the Hampden Sports Clinic delivered training as our last session. They taught us what to do to prevent and treat concussion and how to use CPR correctly.

We had a fabulous day and came back to school full of excitement and lots of stories to share with our families and friends.

Thank you to Mr Neal Ross at Hampden Park Football Museum for organising this exciting day of learning for us all.

P5/6 Health Week Day 2

Art students from the University of West of Scotland came to work with us today. They taught us about the importance of wellbeing and using expressive arts to promote positive wellbeing and linking it to nature and the world around us.

First thing in the morning we went outdoors and listened to the sounds around us and used some breathing techniques to help us relax and connect with our surroundings.

We then went on a nature hunt to find some natural objects from our school garden that we found intersting.

We took our objects indoors and used some observational drawing techniques to sketch our objects.

After break we created our own paintbrushes using natural materials. We listened to some calming muisc as we designed and used our technical skills to create our tools.

We then took a break for lunch and in the afternoon used chalk to sketch some large drawings inspired by nature in our playground.

We learned how to make natural paint using water, flour and food colouring. We finally used our paintbrushes to paint our chalk drawings. You can see by the smiles on our faces how much we enjoyed this day.

Feedback from everyone was that this was a fun, positive and calming day. Everyone was engaged with the activities and found their inner artist.
The student art teachers commented again on our excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and creativity.

P5/6 Secret Student Class Treat

Secret Student Class Treat

Primary 5/6 have been working hard as a team in class to demonstrate our school values of kindness, honesty, respect and ambition.

We have worked together and have  20 class points which means we have earned a class treat. We have chosen to watch a film and enjoy some popcorn and drink  in the afternoon of Friday 7th October.

Mrs Ross will provide some popcorn and juice but children can bring a small snack in with them if they choose to.

P5/6 have also chosen to bring a small cuddly toy with them too. Please just wear school uniform  as we will follow our usual timetable in the morning.

We are choosing our film in the morning. Please let the school know in advance if you would prefer your child not to watch a PG certificate.

Thank you

Mrs Ross

P6 – Wellbeing Champions

Wellbeing Champion Training

Primary 6 and 7 have been taking part in the East Ayrshire Pupil Wellbeing Champion Training. This week they completed session 2 of 4. During this session they were encouraged to consider different strategies they could use to positively impact upon the younger pupils wellbeing especially if the younger pupils are feeling upset or angry.

At the end of this training all pupils will be trained and prepared to become Fenwick Primary School’s Wellbeing Bees as part of their Primary 7 responsibilities to promote wellbeing across our school.
