Today a very confident pupil shared her fantastic power point presentation with the class.
She shared her knowledge and love of dogs and the health and well-being benefits of owning a dog. A very interesting and confident presentation, demonstrating our school value of ambition.
After lots of planning with Lynsey, our Active Schools Coordinator, the Primary 6s organised Sports Day for the ECC. It was an afternoon of potted sports.
Primary 5 supported their buddy by taking them around all the potted sports and helping them at each activity. We then presented all our Buddies with a medal and a certificate that we had made.
All the ECC parents commented on our behaiour saying that we were excellent role models and that we were very patient and kind to our Buddies.
We had a great afternoon and went home very tired!
On Friday we took our Buddies outside and practised potted sports for Sports Day. The Primary 6s delivered the session and the Primary 5 s supported the ECC pupils and gave them encouragement. We had a great afternoon and we can’t wait for sports day on the 19th May.
As we prepare to work with our ECC Buddies, today we met Ariana and Sophie from Speech and Language Therapy in East Ayrshire who delivered some training.
We learned about the importance of being down face to face with our Buddy, Observing, Waiting and Listening – OWL and taking the lead from our Buddy.
Science Week: Lorna Baird (Master Ship’s Captain) from Serco
Yesterday we had Lorna Baird visiting from Serco. She is the captain of cargo ships. Lorna spoke to the class about the impact of ships on the environment and alternative options to reduce the damage to the environment. She discussed how smaller ships are using solar power and lots of ships are returning to using sails however these come with some challenges which was shared with the class. Lorna discussed how the ship manages waste to reduce impact upon the environment, such as incinerating waste and feeding food waste to sea life.
Lorna also shared the skills required to do her job, she is a trained fire fighter and medic which is expected of all of the staff on the ship.
The pupils were very interested and asked lots of questions.
Thanks to our fabulous helpers from p5/6 at our school development night for parents. They spoke with confidence, excitement and shared their ideas while gathering lots of new ideas. Well done 👏🏻
Today Graham from Ayrshire Astronomical Society visited to share knowledge about the moon and space rockets with P6/7 and P5/6. The children had opportunities to participate in demonstrations, look at models of space rockets, interact with a presentation and ask questions.
We had a lovely visitor come into the school last week to deliver a range of lessons focusing on dogs. In P5/6, we learned about how to care for a dog and a little about body language when in the company of a dog or if a dog approaches us in public. This was a really interesting lesson and everybody learned something new. The pupils were so respectful towards our visitor and had lots of questions about what they had learned.
