Thanks to our fabulous helpers from p5/6 at our school development night for parents. They spoke with confidence, excitement and shared their ideas while gathering lots of new ideas. Well done 👏🏻
Today Graham from Ayrshire Astronomical Society visited to share knowledge about the moon and space rockets with P6/7 and P5/6. The children had opportunities to participate in demonstrations, look at models of space rockets, interact with a presentation and ask questions.
We had a lovely visitor come into the school last week to deliver a range of lessons focusing on dogs. In P5/6, we learned about how to care for a dog and a little about body language when in the company of a dog or if a dog approaches us in public. This was a really interesting lesson and everybody learned something new. The pupils were so respectful towards our visitor and had lots of questions about what they had learned.
This week’s skiing was as fun as ever especially with the snow coming on and off making the slopes that little bit more slippy. Still lots of smiles all round with pupils enjoying the experience, building confidence and encouraging one another thank you to the super staff at Newmilns ski slopes.
Today we experienced some snow on the slopes.
We delivered our Thankful Thursday notes to our coaches who were delighted to be appreciated.
Today we enjoyed learning how to code Microbits using block coding.
Thanks to Markandey for bringing along the robots to see the coding in action.
We enjoyed the launch of Science week with an experiment delivered by Mrs Hosie.
She taught us all about chemical reactions using the Cola and Mentos experiment. We created hypotheses, carried out the experiment then learned about the reason for the reaction.
On Friday, all of the primary 6 pupils had their first Play Leaders session with Lynsey Hogg from Active Schools. Lynsey discussed role models with them and what role models mean to them. She taught them a range of strategies to maximise participation when leading activities. We are excited to see them grow as Play Leaders within our school.
We had a lovely afternoon sharing our learning with our family. We learned about antonyms and synonyms, wrote bucket lists, created timelines of our lives and also read for information about human lifecycles.
Everyone agreed that it was a nice way to end the World Book Day fun.
