P5/6 Science Week – The Moth

Today we explored our understanding of the word science. We brainstormed our ideas in a group.

We took part in The Great Science Share…

We have been asking lots of questions and then  hypothesising , experimenting, analysing our results and then making conclusions.

We learned all about the Peppered Moth and how it has evolved and adapted to survive in it’s changing environment.

We even made our own moths and experimented with weight to make them balance.

P5/6 Science Week: Bees

P5/6 used question spinners to create questions they had about bees.

We discussed the importance of bees and planted herbs that were bee friendly.   Mrs Conetta and Mrs Ross look forward to seeing any photos P5/6 have of their herbs when they start growing on their e-portfolio.

While groups were busy sowing their seeds, pupils were able to access laptops to research and find out the answer to their questions about bees.

P5/6 Leaf Printing

Today we learned a new skill : leaf printing.

We collected leaves then using a hammer and cloth we learned how to transfer the leaf print  on to the material. We are hoping to create a beautiful picture to display in class and then identify all the trees in our picture.

P5/6 Identifying Insects

Wilderness War Novel Study

The characters in our novel study love the outdoors and Noah knows the names of a wide variety of creatures in the woodland. He can identify them by sight, sound and even by what they leave behind !

Today we used our wildlfe sheets to identify minibeasts that we have collected outdoors. We sketched what we had found, looked at the size and colours and then identified the mini beast  and labelled our drawings. We think Noah would be very impressed with our skills.
