P5/6 Homework 25.10.21
This weeks homework has been added to Teams
Hallowe’en Homework Task
This Friday we will be taking part in lots of different activities to celebrate Hallowe’en. As an additional homework task, please learn a joke/poem to share with the class on Friday.
P5/6 KNex Challenge
We are getting ready to take part in the Glasgow Science Festival Creating Engineers Challenge next week.
We sorted our Knex and worked together to organise the different parts into our storage boxes. We loved this challenge and showed fantastic collaborative skills to tidy up our resources. Mrs Ross was very impressed!
We then had a go at making some of our own designs to practise building with Knex.
Next step : work in teams to plan, design and build a structure from our chosen theme.
Next week we will take part in a times team event. Watch this space to see our COP26 inspired designs.IMG_6729
P5/6 Fractions and Decimals
We have been learning all about tenths, hundredths and thousandths.
In class we have been writing fractions in decimal notation and learning about their place value.
Today we used this skill in a real life context using decimal points when measuring in metres and centimetres .
We also timed each other using hundredths of a second to record our time accurately.
P5/6 Writing
Setting the Scene
During creative writing this week, we have been learning how to set the scene for our stories.
Today we took part in a writing workshop in class where we uplevelled our descriptive writing skills. We learned how to move verbs about in a sentence, how to vary the length of our sentences and how to use a thesaurus to improve our vocabulary .
We then became set designers and chose a description to create our own sets. Some of us would love to do this as a career.
STEM task : create a charcter for your set and make them stand up .
Lots of fun active learning in class today.
Ask us all about what we did – you can read about it on our individual E-portfolios.
P5/6 Basketball
In PE, we focused on attacking and defending skills in basketball.
P5/6 tessellation
We were learning about tessellation today. Some children were set the challenge of creating their own shape to tessellate. They were given a rectangle and asked to create a different shape from it. They turned out fantastic.
