As part of a homework challenge P4/5 were asked to create a presentation by Vicky McWilliam from the EAC Clean Green Award that could be presented to 32 local authorities at the ASSIST conference in Glasgow. The pupils created some outstanding presentations summarising all that we do in Fenwick Primary to reduce food waste.
Jessica, Ilaria and Lily came along to the conference and confidently delivered their presentation. Fantastic job!!
P4/5 have nearly completed the Eco friendly greenhouse with George the STEM ambassador who has been working with us. The pupils have used their leadership and technological skills. We also planted carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, sweetcorn, cucumber and flowers. Our wildflowers are blooming, attracting lots of bees and we went on a snail search.
Today P4/5 researched Finlay Russell, The Scottish rugby team captain and created a presentation#. They participated in rugby games led by the House Captains. A great effort from all.
Primary 4/5 went litter picking in the garden, began to fix the bug hotel, built more of the greenhouse and checked the planters for signs of bulbs growing. So far the daffodils are all out and 2 of the bulbs we planted have bloomed.
Today we continued working to achieve our Keep Scotland Beautiful school Eco Flag and East Ayrshire Clean Green Award. We filled and put up bird feeders, planted 100 bulbs and did some litter picking. We also created a mini garden for the classroom and we launched a new energy saving initiative across classes by asking them to switch off electric powered items for 5 minutes every day.
