P3/4 – Book Week Scotland

P3/4 have enjoyed Book Week Scotland.

We have loved having visitors in to our classroom to read to us – thank you to P7 pupils, parents and author, Hannah Willow.

We thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘My Police on Patrol’ and meeting the kids officers with their car and police horses!

P3 pupils had a great morning with their families completing activities and receiving their Read, Write, Count bags.

P4 had fun making origami bookmarks.

The mobile library visited us this week too.

P3/4 – Cress Experiment Results

The results are in!  P3/4 have come to the conclusion that plants need both light and water to grow healthily.  We examined all the plants and we used our measuring skills to measure the growth of each plant.

P3/4 – ICT

Today during ICT, we were learning about the keys on the keyboard and basic features within Word.

Ask us about the shift key, the enter/return key and space bar.

We had to find the capital letters on the keyboard to type the alphabet in lower case, then use the shift key to make the letters capital.  We also changed the font, the font size and colour of our spelling words which we typed into the document.

P3/4 – Cress Experiment

We have been learning about the plants in the rainforest and we are carrying out an experiment to investigate what plants need to grow.

We watched a video and then designed an experiment to grow cress in different conditions.  Each group had 4 pots to plant and then we will vary the conditions for each pot – sunlight and water, no sunlight and no water, sunlight and no water, and water but no sunlight.  We drew a labelled diagram and wrote our own hypothesises.

P3/4 RAINFOREST PLANTS

P3/4 scanned QR codes to access different websites on our iPads to find out information about rainforest plants.

Things we learnt:

  • “The trees in the rainforests can be called the lungs of the planet.”
  • “They [the trees] take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen.”
  • “Some leaves have drip tips.”
  • “Plants can grow without soil.”
  • “Some trees can grow to 200 feet.” – Mrs Conetta converted this to metres and told us that this would be 60 metre sticks tall!
  • “There are some plants that eat flies!”
