As part of our IDL Topic, My Body, we have been learning about inheritance and characteristics that can be inherited.
We learnt about inherited characteristics in humans, animals and plants. Lots of great discussion took place!
MONSTER INHERITANCE CHALLENGE: To explore inherited characteristics, learners chose 2 monsters and then had to identify characteristics that could be passed onto their offspring. They then drew what the offspring could possibly look like. P3/4 excelled themselves and their monsters were ROAR-some!!
P3/4 enjoyed learning about Scotland footballer Billy Gilmour. We learned about his life as a youngster in Ardrossan, which football clubs he has played for and watched some of his highlights. The class also had the chance to show off their own skills during a football challenge in the gym hall! Thank you to the RRS and Sports committees for organising all the fun!
We used a range of non-fictions books about the body to find out information about the liver and the kidneys.
We used our literacy skills to use the contents and index to locate the correct page. Once we found out facts, we noted them down and then search what we had learnt with others.
We were amazed to learn that an adult’s liver in roughly the size of a rugby ball!
P3/4 were so excited to receive replies from our Pen-Pal letters in Spain! We loved reading all about our new friends!
We had great fun this week with lots of different science-related activities! We learned about the lungs and the digestive system through some fun experiments and some members of the Eco committee taught us about climate change. Special thanks to all of our visitors who work in different scientific sectors.

We have been learning about the lungs and explored the movement of air in and out of our bodies.
We had lots of fun playing a game learning about apostrophes for contractions. Each learner was given a card and then they had to race around the class to find their “contraction twin” – 1 card had the contraction and 1 card had the full form.
If you wish to practise the words to the songs for our Spring Celebration, please find them below.
We are reading Flat Stanley as our class novel. During the story, Stanley gets posted to his friend in California.
We have joined up with a school in Spain and are going to write to a Year 3 class as pen pals.
Everyone wrote an introductory letter about themselves to their new pen pal and created a “Flat me” to send alongside their letters.
Excitement levels were high today as we walked to the post box to post our letters. We can’t wait to receive our responses from Spain!
