P2/3 – Science Week

Science Week: LOST

Yesterday P2/3 had a visitor from LOST (Learning Outdoors Support Team).  The children loved finding different bugs and looking at them through a microscope to figure out what they had found.  We also learned how to use nets to catch butterflies in the better weather and how to catch bugs from bushes using a sheet.

Interesting work P2/3!

P2/3 – Science

Science: Bubbles

If you have a bubble wand that is in the shape of a triangle or love heart will the bubble stay this shape?

This week the children had to predict whether they thought the bubbles would always be round or if they would stay the shape of the wand.  P2/3 made their own bubble wands in any shape, from pipe cleaners, to test their theory.

We found that the bubbles were always round no matter the shape of the bubble wand.  Ask the children why this is!

Brilliant bubbling P2/3!

P2/3 – Maths

Maths: Shape

Primary 2/3 are coming towards the end of their focus on learning about shape. They have a great knowledge of shape and have built confidence in naming and describing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They have taken part in a wide range of active tasks as well as written tasks as part of their learning throughout this topic.

Recently, P2/3 took their learning outdoors, into the playground, to complete a shape hunt. They were to work in small groups to find shapes (2D or 3D) and take photos of them on the ipads. The class then returned inside to discuss what shapes were in their photos and their properties.

Pupils built 3D shape models then described what shapes and properties their model was made up of.
