Maths: Symmetry
Last week, Primary 2/3 were learning about symmetry. They created firework pictures using paint and black paper. They only painted half of their fireworks scene then folded the paper in half to print a symmetrical image on the other half of the paper. The pupils followed the lesson up with a bit of fun, completing a Just Dance routine to ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry.
Maths: Shape
Primary 2/3 are coming towards the end of their focus on learning about shape. They have a great knowledge of shape and have built confidence in naming and describing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They have taken part in a wide range of active tasks as well as written tasks as part of their learning throughout this topic.
Recently, P2/3 took their learning outdoors, into the playground, to complete a shape hunt. They were to work in small groups to find shapes (2D or 3D) and take photos of them on the ipads. The class then returned inside to discuss what shapes were in their photos and their properties.
Pupils built 3D shape models then described what shapes and properties their model was made up of.
Maths: shape
This week primary 2/3 enjoyed some more active tasks when learning about 2D shape. Pupils were able to describe different shapes detailing their properties using the correct vocabulary (curved/straight sides and vertices). They completed shape patterns on the Ipads, tiling activities using 2D shapes, created shapes using lollipop sticks and sorting pictures of real life objects into the correct 2D shapes. Additionally, some pupils were challenged with matching up properties to their 2D shape through a ‘loop card’ activity.
Once again, super work from all of Primary 2/3.
