Today 2 workers from Whitelee came to talk about wind energy. They had a pretty scary job, as they climb to the top of the Wind Turbines to fix them.

P1 Science Week Day 3 – Heartbeats
Today we were investigating our heartbeats and the difference before and after exercise.
P1 Science Week Day 3 – Music
Today we had a visit from Jacqui Grant. She taught us a music lesson through a story about a little star.
P1 Science Day 3 – Poo
Today we looked at how our body makes us poo. We started off the lesson by eating a jam sandwich.
Miss Stevenson demonstrated what happens in our mouth by mashing a jam sandwich up with a little water (saliva) in a bowl.
We then saw the sandwich work its way down the Oesophagus into the Stomach. In the Stomach a little Acid was added (Vinegar) and the Stomach was squeezed to break down the food.
The sandwich then left the Stomach and went into the Intestines. It travelled through the Intestines and the Nutrients (water) squeezed through the wall of the Intestines (tights) into the body. The pupils squeezed the digested sandwich along the “Intestine” and finally at the end watched the “poo” arrive.
P1 Symmetry
P1 have been finding out about symmetry. We have been learning about vertical symmetry and trying to create our own pictures. Some of the older children helped us make symmetrical faces and even made their own.
P1 Science Week Day 2.
Today we had lots of fun. We learnt all about worms – we collected worms from the field, read them Superworm, collected the materials we needed to make a Wormery and then made our own Wormeries with a partner.
P1 Science Week Day 1
Today we continued to study the brain and looked at mindfulness. We then drew a picture from a simple line or shape. Mrs Hosie then taught us about Chemical Reactions.
We also read Rosie Revere, Engineer. Learning about what Engineers do. We then designed our own buildings which had to stand by themselves and have an opening door.

P1 World of Work
P1 popped along to the upper school World of Work Workshop. We wanted to see the skulls from the Dean Park and some materials being used in heart operations.
P1 Pizza Parlour
Today we made pizza in class – and of course ate it too. It was delicious.
