Katie Morag Topic

Primary 2 have been learning about what life is like living on the Scottish islands. They have absolutely loved exploring and comparing their lives here on the mainland with what life might be like living and growing up on the Island of Coll (Isle of Struay) in Katie Morag.

We were very lucky to welcome a special visitor to our class – Mrs Morris. I completed my teaching placement with Mrs Morris, who grew up on a Scottish island. She kindly came in to talk to us about what her life was like growing up there, including how she shared a classroom with her three sisters, who were all different ages!

As a challenge, the pupils worked together to create a model of the island using sticks and tissue paper. They collaborated brilliantly as a team and showed fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills.

Later in the topic, we explored character description. The pupils worked extremely hard to describe in detail what Katie Morag looks like on the outside, as well as the kind of person she is on the inside. They used wonderful vocabulary to bring her character to life.

Here is a little snapshot of some of the learning we have enjoyed throughout this topic 😊

We also celebrated Pancake Day with some pancakes covered in jam and butter!

P2 Literacy

Over the past few weeks, Primary 2 have been working very hard on learning the “ch” sound. To celebrate the end of our learning, we went outside for some fun activities! The pupils took part in a race where they had to run to me, write down the word I called out, and then run back to their team. Everyone had a fantastic time- the children were so enthusiastic and competitive!
Well done primary 2!
Miss Cairney:)
