This\u00a0means\u00a0it is a condition that affects the development of the brain. It affects around 1.03% of the Scottish population (McKay et al 2018).<\/p>\n<p>Autism affects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the way a person communicates and interacts with others<\/li>\n<li>how information is processed<\/li>\n<li>how the person makes sense of the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Autism is not a linear scale running from &#8216;high functioning&#8217; to &#8216;low functioning&#8217;, which are unhelpful terms.
