School Update – 3rd December 2021

SCHOOL UPDATE – 3rd DECEMBER 2021
SUPPORTED STUDY
A huge thank you to all the young people who have attended the Supported Study sessions on offer this week – there has been great attendance across the week and it has been great to see pupils making the effort to get in to school for 7:45am! An overview of the next two weeks is attached with some amendments and additions.
GRANGE ADVENT REVISION CALENDAR
A huge thank you to staff and pupils who are working on this joint project to highlight various effective study skills – please encourage your son/daughter to try out some of the tips and techniques. These will be released daily (including at weekends) until the Christmas Holidays.
SENIOR PHASE ASSESSMENTS
As intimated last week our Senior Phase Assessment block will take place from the 7th to the 21st January 2022. The timetable for these will be issued to pupils next week.
S3 PARENTS EVENING
We look forward to virtually meeting with S3 Parents and Carers on Wednesday 8th December. Emails were issued earlier this week to allow parents to book appointments. Please contact the school office if you have not received this email.
GRANGE PARENT COUNCIL RAFFLE
The Parent Council ’12 Days of Christmas’ raffle is underway and we are grateful for their ongoing support of the school in creative and fun ways! There’s still time to participate – please purchase your tickets on ParentPay!
LFD TESTING/HEALTH and SAFETY
A reminder that LFD Asymptomatic Testing kits are available from the school office.
TIME OUT OF CLASS
Over the last few weeks we have noticed an increase in the number of pupils asking to be released from class to get a drink from the water fountains in the street. This is having an increasingly negative impact on learning and teaching and resulting in the loss of valuable time.
Therefore, from Monday, we encourage pupils to come prepared with a bottle of water (if needed) which they can refill before school, during interval or at lunchtime. This preparation should remove the need to be released for class for this purpose and allow our young people to focus on their learning without interruption to their lesson.

We are delighted to release Day 1 of our Advent Revision Calendar. This initiative is being led by staff across the school in partnership with Senior Pupils and each day will highlight another way in which pupils can enhance their studies and prepare for their upcoming January Assessment Block.

S3 Parents Night – Appointments
Dear Parents/Carers of S3 Pupils
S3 PARENTS EVENING – APPOINTMENTS
You will receive an email tomorrow (1st December) from our Parents Evening Booking platform, Parents Booking, to the email address we hold on file. Please check your junk/spam folders.
Once registered, you will be able to book appointments with staff for our upcoming S3 Parents Evening on Wednesday 8th December (4:30pm – 6:30pm).
Please note:
- You must register with the name and email address that is listed as the main contact with the school office. This will be the email address that receives the sign up email.
- The platform is very sensitive and will only accept if the information provided is an exact match to the information we hold on file. For example – if entering Miss Jones with no success, please try Ms Jones. The school office will be able to confirm what we have on file.
- When making appointments, the platform will try to find a best fit of appointments for you but you are able to select other times.
- Please note that each appointment window is 5 minutes long and therefore teachers, particularly in smaller departments, may teach more pupils that they have appointment slots. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
- There will also be an opportunity to make an appointment with either Rebecca (Douglas and Hamilton Houses) or Scott (Bruce and Graham Houses), our Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisors. The platform may try to automatically select a time for them – you will need to deselect this if you do not wish an SDS appointment.
- Appointments can be made until 2pm on the date of the Parents Evening.
For pupils in Miss Kane’s English class – unfortunately Miss Kane is not able to hold appointments on the evening of Wednesday 8th December. She is, however, able to host appointments on Tuesday 7th December from 4pm until 6pm. Pupils in Miss Kane’s English class will see two different events when they log in to the system – one for English and one for all other subjects. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We have used this software for our S1 and S5/6 Parents Evening and the feedback from staff and parents has been generally positive. As with any IT system there can be technical issues. If we can help with digital access/provision in any way please contact our school office and we will do our best to help.
