HEAD TEACHER UPDATE – Friday 11th March 2022

GRANGE ACADEMY – HEAD TEACHER UPDATE – Friday 11th March 2022

Dear Parent/Carer,

Please find some school updates to conclude the week……..

THANK YOU
A huge thank you to all parents and carers once again for your warm welcome to the Grange Campus this week.  It’s a privilege to be appointed to this role and I look forward to serving the community, but particularly our young people in the years ahead.

COMMUNICATION
As you are aware, there is a huge volume of information communicated through the school app – this will continue and develop moving forward in order to ensure parents/carers are kept fully abreast of school business and good news stories.  As Head Teacher, I will attempt to keep my communication as succinct as possible and share on a Friday morning.

SQA – SCENARIO 2
Mrs McLean issued an update through the school app on Wednesday of this week in relation to the ‘Revision Support’ available to Senior Phase learners in preparation for the forthcoming examinations.  Departments will be working closely with learners on this in the coming weeks, however we ask this is reinforced at home if possible.  Your support on this would be very much appreciated.  Information can be found here – https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/100366.html

LUNCH TIME
On Monday of next week we will be moving to a single lunch time (13.10 – 13.55) for all year groups.  Information will be shared with pupils’ period 1 today.

HEAD TEACHER / HEAD OF CAMPUS TRANSITION
As you are aware, I have been very fortunate to be released from my previous school to work with Mr Johnston for the next three weeks in order to ease my transition as Head of Grange Campus; many thanks to East Ayrshire for allowing this to happen.  Mr Johnston and I work closely together to ensure the school is operating as effectively as possible and will continue to do so through until the Easter break.

Around the Easter break time, I plan on holding a virtual meeting with parents and carers across the campus whereby I can introduce myself and present on how I see Grange Academy and Grange Campus moving forward.  More information to follow in due course.

SCHOOL LEAVER DESTINATIONS
Every February/March the Scottish Government release a series of pupil leaver statistics from schools across Scotland.  As previously shared, Grange Academy achieved our best ever pupil positive destination figure with 97.29% of leavers in a positive destination.  A huge thank you to staff for making this possible and for parents/carers for your support of the school.

CONSULTATION
Over the next couple of months I intend carrying out a significant amount of consultation with all school stakeholders.  This will provide me with lots of information on the school/campus and will also allow me to begin planning the 22/23 Improvement Plan.  The first piece of consultation I ask parents/carers to engage with is the Education Scotland inspection questionnaire.  The link to this is below and I would ask this is completed no later than 2pm on Friday 18th March.  Many thanks in advance for taking the time to complete this – https://forms.office.com/r/snhRBHWnvi

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Robertson

P7 Transition Update

Mrs Crawford and Mrs Cardow enjoyed meeting all the P7 pupils across the Grange Learning Community virtually yesterday morning. As our P7 Transition programme continues, this was the first of our weekly virtual meetings.

Mrs Crawford explained to all the P7s about how the S1 classes are made up and a form will be added to the Microsoft Team later this week which will allow the pupils, in conjunction with their parents/carers, to let us know of any siblings they have currently in Grange and also of friendships they would like us to be aware of. Whilst we will always try our best to match up friends we cannot guarantee that this will always be possible.

We look forward to meeting with our P7s next week and will send a message via our School App when the sibling/friendship form has been added to the team.

As the majority of our school communication occurs via the School App we encourage our P7 Parents and Carers to download the school app (search for School App for Parents on the AppStore/GooglePlay) so that they can keep up to date with all things Grange.  Please also share amongst fellow P7 Parents/Carers in case they have not seen this message and are unaware of the School App.

HT Update – 6th January 2022

Dear Parents/Carers and Pupils,
As we start back for the new term I find myself in the very surreal position of announcing that this will be my last term as Head Teacher here at Grange Academy.  After almost 11 years of being a ‘Heidie’ I’ve decided it’s time to go, move on to pastures new and let someone else take over the reins.  It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as your Head Teacher and my time here at Grange Academy has been for the most part the happiest of my career.  I will finish at the end of March and the recruitment process for a new HT will commence in the very near future.
With 12 weeks remaining it’s a bit early to be saying farewell but thank you for your support, advice and encouragement in my time here at Grange.  Our young people are second to none and I will miss them greatly when I leave at Easter.
Kind regards,
Robert Johnston
Head Teacher
