Becoming the people we are capable of being…

Information for Parents and Carers

The Parent Council

The term ‘Parent Forum’ refers to every parent and carer of every pupil at Grange Academy. The term ‘Parent Council’ refers to a small group of Grange parents who meet with the Head Teacher roughly six times a year to discuss school life from a parent’s point of view.  The meetings are organised and chaired by parents, rather than teachers. They provide an excellent opportunity to ‘get behind the scenes’ of school life and have a say in the direction the school is taking.

The Parent Council is always looking to welcome new faces so please come along if you think it might be for you. You won’t be pressured into attending every single meeting or organising events or anything like that! It’s your advice and opinions about Grange life that we’re after.

The Chair of the Parent Council is Kirsty Clelland. You can contact the Parent Council at grangepc5@gmail.com

We are hugely grateful for the fundraising support provided by the Parent Council.

In 2018 the Parent Council raised over £1000 from the Christmas Fayre they organised.  They then asked teachers to bid for a share of the money raised, justifying it in terms of benefits to pupils. As a result, the following items were bought for the school:

  • £350 to buy blood pressure cuffs for pupils to use in Biology.
  • £100 contribution to the cost of the school show.
  • £100 to support full inclusion for all during the PE Department’s dance trip to London.
  • £300 to buy equipment for the S6 Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award sailing expedition.
  • £70 to buy a new trophy for future Awards Ceremonies, the recipient of which will be chosen by the Parent Council.
  • £80 to buy literacy materials for the school library which are pitched at some of our less enthusiastic readers.
  • £100 to support activities for Senior pupils who are in school during the exam diet because they will not be sitting any National 5 or Higher exams.
  • £100 to buy equipment for pupils to use in the Design and Manufacture course.

In 2019, they asked pupils to tell them what the Christmas Market profits should be spent on. Pupils asked for:

  • new guitars for the Music Department
  • new basketball hoops for PE and extra-curricular
  • prefect badges
  • sets of headphones for the Music Department.

In 2020, the Parent Council provided beautiful hampers for raffle and will soon be taking decisions about the proceeds.
