Shoebox appeal activity – We opened a light discussion about poverty and people less fortunate than us, and spoke with the children about kindness, caring and giving. The children then helped to pick items out of a bag & pack the shoeboxes, one for a little girl and one for a little boy. We discussed why we were putting each item in, and the boys and girls wanted to make their own pictures, cards and drawings to include in the boxes. We were so proud of the children\u2019s response and attitude towards the activity, your children really are so kind and caring. Superstars, as always!! Here are some snippets of lovely comments we heard;<\/p>\n

AM –<\/p>\n

\u201cI put hair clips in cos we\u2019ve all got lovely clips, some for the little girl\u201d – S<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving makes them happy. They don\u2019t have Lego. I put jammies in for them\u201d – H<\/p>\n

\u201cI gave the girl an egg to play with (toy). We could draw them a picture!\u201d – O<\/p>\n

\u201cA toothbrush, to brush their teeth\u201d – A<\/p>\n

\u201cSome fluffy jammies, to keep them nice and warm. I\u2019m going to make a picture with my name on it for them\u201d – Ta<\/p>\n

\u201cThis brush is for brushing the girls hair\u201d – B<\/p>\n

\u201cA bobble so they can put their hair up like I do\u201d – L<\/p>\n

\u201cPencils for drawing and colouring\u201d – Cona<\/p>\n

\u201cGive them A sponge to wash. I\u2019m going to make a picture for them too! They\u2019ll like it\u201d – R<\/p>\n

\u201cA sponge to clean\u201d – Tr<\/p>\n

\u201cI put a car in, cos they don\u2019t have any toys. And some lovely cuddly toys. I want to draw them a picture\u201d – Es<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t have lots of things like us. They even have dirty water in places like Africa. That\u2019s sad, we should help. We gave a toothbrush so they can brush their teeth\u201d – Er<\/p>\n

\u201cI gave them a book to read\u201d – Cono<\/p>\n

PM –<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the boys and girls are going to be happy. They\u2019re going to love doing some drawing with the paper and pencils. We could send them a card too. I think the little boy would like to play with this car\u201d – R<\/p>\n

\u201cWe put the things in the box for the little boy and the little girl cos they don\u2019t have any toys. I gave them a duck for scrubbing in the bath make them nice and clean\u201d (sponge) – Har<\/p>\n

\u201cI put a toy in – she\u2019s gonna be so happy she\u2019s gonna think the toy is fabulous. Books and jammies for them to sleep with\u201d – Ap<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could make them a present\u201d – Alf<\/p>\n
