Well has your wee one came home talking more about the gruffalo? Then this may be why!…
How amazing is this set up within this cohort expanding and feeling children’s knowledge of the gruffalo as well as developing real life skills and imagination.
This was some of today’s fun learning experiences for the children.
We were fishing for numbers and exploring matching these.
We were looking at recognising letters and making our own letters by using sticks in the tuff tray.
We were exploring the instruments and practiced rhythm, beat and loud/quiet noise.
we had some fun in the home corner which is getting developed as the weeks go on. Any newspapers/telephones/ magazines/ real life home items would be welcomed as a donation for the ECC to enhance these role play areas.

They found some dinosaurs and created an outdoor dinosaur world that they are developing over the course of the week. The children were also weaving the large branches through the pallet – super fine motor skills! Super exploration for our kiddies today in the outdoors.
It certainly felt a bit nippier in the air so please make sure you wrap your wee one up for the elements.

Let’s talk about grammar!
Lots of wee ones don’t use correct grammar when they are learning to talk. They may say things like “Look at the mouses”, “me need the toilet”, “I felled” or use he/she/his/her incorrectly. This is part of normal language development, but there are ways to help them get their grammar right 😄
Try these strategies to help your child get all the little bits of their talking just right…
Story Books: Reading books helps model correct grammar use.
Play: In play ask the child what is happening, what just happened or what might happen next (e.g. adult: “What is the baby doing?” child: “The baby is sleeping”; adult: Makes teddy jump and asks, “What did Teddy just do?” child: “Teddy jumped”; adult: “What will the dog do next?” child: “The dog will go to sleep”)
Telling Stories: Encourage the child to tell you the story in a book using the pictures. The child will usually produce a simple sentence which will enable you to model the correct grammar if it is said incorrectly. The more the child practices telling the same story the more they will pick up on your models and improve their grammar in their story telling.
Pronouns: When a child is learning about the pronouns ‘he/she’, explain to the child that “He is a boy and she is a girl”. You can then find pictures of boys and girls doing different actions and say a sentence about each picture (e.g. “He is jumping” or “She is laughing”)
Pronoun ‘I’: When helping the child to learn how to use the pronoun “I” engage the child in different requesting activities where they have to ask for items (e.g. Mr Potato Head, puzzles, snack time, choosing a DVD, posting blocks)

This is a small reminder of the cohorts that your children have currently been in from start of term up until the day we stop for the October holidays this term.

Lainshaw ECC will be closed on Thursday 17th September as an additional day was agreed following consultation with East Ayrshire Council as a result of schools retuning a week earlier in August due to COVID-19.
The Centre will also be closed on Friday 18th September and Monday 21st September for the September weekend.
We look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 22nd September at their usual drop off times for AM & PM. I have also added an image of the holidays for east Ayrshire council for you all too ☺️
The silver and ladybird group have been exploring the gruffalo… Karen has made this amazing provocation for children to explore and enhance their learning about the gruffalo further.

Today the red and purple group have been further exploring the impending autumn season by doing some conker exploration which involved stomping, cutting and smashing to get them open. We even found a slug friend attached 🙂
