We will be moving on to the novel \u2018The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog\u2019 by Jeremy Strong with pupils taking on more independence using these strategies<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term pupils will be focusing on persuasive writing and explanation as well as covering other genres through I.D.L topics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grammar and Punctuation <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be learning about pronouns, prepositions, adverbs and \u2018confusing words\u2019 as well as continue to develop our knowledge of punctuation, including using commas for lists, speech marks and apostrophes to show possession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phonics into Spelling Programme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There will be 2 weeks focus on spelling then 2 weeks on phonics in rotation (same as last term).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listening and Talking <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children will be performing a Scottish poem in front of their peers this term as part of Dunlop\u2019s annual Scottish Poetry Competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Numeracy will continue to involve a mixture of concrete, pictorial and written methods to reinforce learning and deepen understanding. We will continually revise and consolidate areas of prior learning as well as focusing on the following new areas of learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fractions<\/li>\n<li>Money<\/li>\n<li>Number processes (multiplication and division)<\/li>\n<li>Properties of 2D and 3D shape<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u2018Number Talks\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 pupils will continue to develop a range of mental maths strategies through Number Talks.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health &amp; Wellbeing <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>P.E. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gymnastics \u2013 rolling, jumping and balancing<\/li>\n<li>Basketball<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Health <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will begin our \u2018Emotion Works\u2019 programme by building and expanding on emotional vocabulary.<\/p>\n<p>We will also discover the different ways that advertising, and media can affect choices.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Social Studies\/Science<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Social studies<\/strong> \u2013 for Scottish fortnight we will be learning about Scottish Castles.<\/p>\n<p>We will continue with our<strong> science<\/strong> topic of \u2018Polar Regions\u2019 which we started just before the Christmas break. This topic will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Looking at the extreme conditions and how animals have adapted to survive<\/li>\n<li>Food chains<\/li>\n<li>The melting polar ice caps<\/li>\n<li>Northern Lights<\/li>\n<li>Native dwellers of the Polar Regions &#8211; Inuits<\/li>\n<li>STEM challenges linked to the topic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Technologies <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Primary 4 will be working on embedding ICT into the curriculum.
