John Muir Award

This session Primary 6 and 7 are going to be working towards their John  Muir award. This award asks us to discover a wild place within our local environment and explore all it has to offer. If you would like to know more about this please follow the link https://www.johnmuirtrust.org/john-muir-award

In Dunlop we are incredibly fortunate that we have so many beautiful spots on our doorstep for us all to discover.

On Wednesday both classes ventured down to the Millennium Woods. Whilst we were there the children were asked to sketch a particular viewpoint, which when back in the class they would paint in watercolours. Their second task was to write down a variety of descriptions, using their senses. These descriptions will be used to create a piece of creative writing.

As we work towards the award the children will be given the opportunity to suggest ideas and we are really looking forward to hearing what they come up with.

P7 STEAM Week

Last week P7 had a week of STEAM based learning. We were learning to use Excel in maths to create pie charts of a social media survey conducted between p5-7. For science we were learning how to stop the spread of infectious diseases and then had to create a model hand washing device from a range of junk material. They only had a limited number of credits so had to be creative with resources and measure/calculate how much of each item they could use. P7 then had the choice to create a game, video clip, poster or drama sketch to then educate others.
The week ended on a high with a visit from the Science Centre which had a Renewable Energy focus.

P7 Beat the Flood Test – Video clips

P7 Open Hour STEM Challenge

For open hour, P7 had 60 minutes to use what they had learned about flood resilient homes in Bangladesh to create their own houses. Pupils had time in their groups to work through developing their specifications and design ideas before beginning their models. They all did extremely well with this challenge.

Thank you to all the parents that came along and also helped the children.

Dunlop’s Got Talent 2019

Last term we held Dunlop’s Got Talent 2019. There were a number of different acts all keen to show us what they could. We are always amazed at the range of talents our pupils have from singing to limbo! No matter what the the talent is,  it is the children’s confidence and enthusiasm that shines through and makes it one of our yearly highlights.
