Primary 2 Words of the Week

In Primary 2 this week we will be learning the sound ‘ow’

Our words this week are:

  • Low
  • Grow
  • Throw
  • Follow
  • Shallow
  • Show

If you would like, at home children could practice reading their words this week.

Some active activities you could try at home could be:

  • Rainbow writing- asking the children to write each word in a different colour.
  • Backwards writing- children write their words forwards and then backwards.
  • You could also help the children to find their words around the house, whether it be on the TV, in a book or anywhere else in the house.

Primary 2 Spelling Week

This week in Primary 2 we will be focusing on our spelling words.

Our words this week are:

  • much
  • of
  • or
  • old
  • do
  • going

The children have created their own flash cards of the spelling words which they can use to practice at home if they wish.

I have included some activities that you can try at home if you wish.

Activities

Rainbow writing- The children write out their words using a different colour for each letter.

Backwards writing- The children write out their words forwards and then backwards.

Capital writing- The children write out their words in capital letters.

Dyslexia Awareness Week

In Primary 2 we have been learning about dyslexia as it is Dyslexia Awareness Week. The children have been watching videos and looking at different examples of how others with dyslexia read, spell and write.

We took part in an activity to allow the children to understand what it is like to write and copy information. To do this we copied information from the board using non dominant hand.

The children found this tricky and noticed that it was very hard and wasn’t as neat as their other hand either. We will be continuing to learn about dyslexia throughout the week through different activities.

If you would like, at home children could practice reading their words this week.

Some active activities you could try at home could be:

  • Rainbow writing- asking the children to write each word in a different colour.
  • Pasta writing- children form their words using pasta shells.
  • You could also help the children to find their words around the house, whether it be on the TV, in a book or anywhere else in the house.
