P4 have been busy learning about Scottish Castles for Scottish fortnight. We researched castles and then presented our findings to each other. In numeracy, we applied our knowledge of perimeter and created a castle floor plans using Lego. We then had to record the perimeter of each room.

P4 – STEM Challenge
P4 worked incredibly hard this afternoon to create a model of the Sydney Harbour Bridge using K’Nex. They should all be very proud of how well they worked together during this challenge. Well done p4!
Primary 3 Rocket challenge
The children have been learning about the sun, moon and stars. Their challenge to day was to build their own rocket using only 20 pieces of lego. Next they worked with a partner using 40 pieces of lego to create a rocket that included elements from the rocket they made themselves. The children loved this challenge and worked well together. Many children talked in a positive way to their partner when working together.
P6 STEM challenges
P6 have been enjoying completing some STEM activities over the last few weeks. Here are their vehicles that had to carry a can and their bridges that had to be more than 50cm wide.
P7 STEAM Week
Last week P7 had a week of STEAM based learning. We were learning to use Excel in maths to create pie charts of a social media survey conducted between p5-7. For science we were learning how to stop the spread of infectious diseases and then had to create a model hand washing device from a range of junk material. They only had a limited number of credits so had to be creative with resources and measure/calculate how much of each item they could use. P7 then had the choice to create a game, video clip, poster or drama sketch to then educate others.
The week ended on a high with a visit from the Science Centre which had a Renewable Energy focus.
Primary 6 Wind Power
As part of our climate change topic primary 6 have been learning about different types of renewable energy. We have been completing different STEAM challenges and our last one was to build a simple wind turbine. The children had to work in groups and were given different resources, depending on the country they represented.
As you can see from the videos below, some of the turbines were more successful than others.
Primary 6 Exploring Decimals
Primary 6 have been exploring the relationship between decimals and fractions. Today they used Numicon to help them convert fractions to decimals. Well done primary 6!
P7 Beat the Flood Test – Video clips
P7 Beat the Flood
Completed houses ready for the test!
P7 Open Hour STEM Challenge
For open hour, P7 had 60 minutes to use what they had learned about flood resilient homes in Bangladesh to create their own houses. Pupils had time in their groups to work through developing their specifications and design ideas before beginning their models. They all did extremely well with this challenge.
Thank you to all the parents that came along and also helped the children.
