ECC- We are going to Save the Planet. Will you help us?

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been learning about our rights during Rights Respecting Schools.  We have learnt a lot about our right to clean water.  We have done some experiments with clean and dirty water and all agreed we couldn’t drink dirty water, we would get sick.  This led us on to finding out about COP26 and what this was all about.

After lots of discussions with the children we have decided we need to help save the planet!

To do this we are going to have one day a week in the ECC where we only use natural and recyclable materials to create our artwork and we will have one day a month where we will take part in deconstructed role play.  This is where all our man made resources will go away for part of the session and the children will be provided recyclable materials such as boxes and plastic bottles, and we will see what they do with them and what the can create.  These creations will stay in the ECC to be reused or if they are ready for the bin we will recycle them.

We do need your help.  From Monday 22nd November, there will 2 bags for life on the ECC fence, one will be for plastic and one will be for paper/cardboard.  We would really appreciate it if you and your child could bring some recycling with you when you can to help us build a collection that we can reuse.

We are looking for:

  • Washed out plastics: bottles, yogurt pots, fruit/veg tubs, bottle tops/lids
  • Cardboard: kitchen roll tubes, cardboard boxes
  • Wine corks
  • Lids from condiment jars
  • Old birthday cards
  • Newspapers and magazines

We are also looking for large cardboard boxes and old/unused white cotton materials such as pillowcases or T-shirts.  This is for us to take part in dyeing experiences using natural resources such as fruit and veg.  If you have either of these please bring them up to the staff at drop off/collection time.

As always thank you for your help.

Kindest Regards

Mrs Marshall, Mrs Gray and the children of Dunlop ECC
