Our Butterflies

Caterpillar Song

I started as a tiny egg upon a leaf of green,

and now I stay upon a leaf so I will not be seen.

Soon I’ll build a chrysalis upon a limb so high,

I’ll stay a while and then come out and be a butterfly.

Two of our caterpillar’s have now emerged from their cacoons. They stayed in their home for a couple of days before I released them into my garden where they are enjoying looking for nectar in the flowers. We have two more butterflies waiting to emerge from their cacoons I will update you all on their progess.

Our Caterpillars

Over in the garden,

under a tree.

I saw some fuzzy caterpillars

one, two, three.

Over in the garden under the moon.

Each caterpillar spun herself a cacoon.

Over in the garden right before my eyes,

those caterpillars all turned

into butterflies!

Our four tiny little caterpillars have eaten, lots and lots of their special food growing big and strong. It has been fancinating to watch their life cycle so far. We began with tiny eggs which then grew in to large hairy caterpillars, they have now moved to  the top of their home and begun to spin their cacoons. I will soon move them into their new home and wait for their final transformation.

THE FUZZY CATERPILLAR

The Fuzzy Caterpillar

The fuzzy caterpillar
curled up on a leaf.
Spun her little chrysalis
and then fell fast asleep.
While she was sleeping
she dreamed that she could fly.
And later when she woke up
she was a butterfly.

The ECC caterpillars continue to eat and grow and grow and grow. We will watch as they transform into a cacoon and then into butterflies.

Extreme Reading Indeed!

We have a late entry to our ECC Extreme Reading Challenge and this looks pretty extreme!

Our extreme reader was harnessed up at Clip and Climb in Glasgow and managed to scale the tallest tower but she also took a little time out to enjoy one of her favourite Emily Brown books too!

Well done extreme reader, thank you for taking part.

with kind regards, Mrs Nouillan

SCIENCE WEEK

During the last week the children have taken part in a wide variety of science experiences, including a milk experiment. The children had four different milks, they added food colouring and washing up liquid and waited to discover what would happen. The children then investigated what happens to a balloon when vinegar and baking soda is mixed together in a bottle.

STEAM MONTH

The ECC children will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of experience relating to STEAM during March. The children will be able to relate this to the real world, as we are being  visited by some of our parents to discuss their careers. Last week this included a Computer Engineer, a Software Engineer and a Computer Programmer.

Week 3 Mini Forest March 2020

After a 2 week break ,we are back! This week we have enjoyed exploring our Mini Forest again. The children had a dry day but it was certainly wet and muddy on the ground. Mudpies and looking for things in the mud encouraged the childrens imagination. “ive found a stingray”, also “im making mudpies for moles”. A slide was also made as they bottom shuffled down it. Treeclimbing is always exciting and encourages the children to enjoy the  freedom  and shouts of “im in my den” and “look at me!” as their confidence grows. We also had Miss Malloy our student who will be with us for the next month. Mrs Gray and myself are enjoying watching the children as they happily learn new things each week Regards Mrs Orr
