Keeping Children Safe – SIMOA

The Care Inspectorate have introduced SIMOA, the elephant, to all ELC settings.

The SIMOA campaign is designed to support ELC settings in raising awareness and acting responsibly to safeguard, protect and support children’s wellbeing.

SIMOA says be:

Monitor
Regularly check that all children are accounted for particularly when they are outside, on outings or using transport.

Observe
Observe children and think about their feelings and emotional security – use these observations to support children to feel loved and secure.

Act

Our visit to Primary 1

The children enjoyed their visit to Primary 1 on Friday afternoon.

Our friends in Primary 1 took them on a park walk and they discussed what they liked about primary 1 and the children in the ECC shared what they are looking forward to.  When we came back to the classroom they listened to a story read by Mrs Sullivan and then they worked collaboratively  with primary 1 to build castles for the Queen.

Afternoon Tea Fit for the Queen

On Friday we had a wonderful Afternoon Tea in the ECC.  Lots of the children chose to dress for the occasion, and they looked absolutely fabulous!

Some of our children baked scones for our Afternoon Tea.  We had cucumber sandwiches, coronation chicken, fairy cakes and scones to eat, some of the children had a cup of tea, others chose to have some juice.

Mrs Thomson provided us with some beautiful table cloths and silver trays to serve the children’s food from and we all sat at the tables to enjoy our food.

It truly was a wonderful afternoon, eating and spending time chatting with the children.  I hope they all enjoyed it as much as we did.

Kindest Regards

Mrs Marshall

Rhyme of the Month

Our Rhyme of the Month for May is Sing a Song of Sixpence.

Sing a Song of Sixpence

Sing a song of sixpence

A pocketful of rye;

Four-and-twenty blackbirds

baked in a pie;

When the pie was opened,

The birds began to sing;

Wasn’t that a dainty dish

To set before a king?
