The Ladybirds and The Foxes in the Mini Forest.

On Wednesday morning the children had an opportunity to gather their own natural resources and make a butterfly. They were exploring symmetry and had an exciting time trying to find things that would match for both sides in order for it to be symmetrical. An amazing amount of detail went into their creations and we were impressed by their enthusiasm and lovely designs.

They had a great time playing in the trees with lots of climbing and a few happy to sit in little dens and chat to each other. We had a lovely snack sitting in the sunshine and after a another play it was time to return to the ECC.

The Bees creating with clay.

On Tuesday  morning The Bees had a lovely experience using the clay in the Mini Forest. They were exploring symmetry through creating faces and objects onto a tree, with the clay. They did an amazing job and they really enjoyed looking  at each others work too. A few children decided on self portraits and we had a butterfly, a rainbow, a person with no hair, a duck and a collection of 5 faces.

We also enjoyed time to play and the children choose to dig for treasure with sticks, play dinosaurs ,climb trees and use little bits of clay as marshmallows to toast. They found an orange Sainsburys bag and compared it to a glowing fire as they toasted their marshmallows. They really showed us how creative and imaginative they are. We had snack sitting together on the grass  and then it was time to return to the ECC.

Apologies photos unable to upload but will try to rectify asap.

The Badgers look for symmetrical patterns.

Today the Badgers had great fun in the mini forest as they spent a dry bright morning looking for patterns. They explored lots of different surfaces with their magnifying glasses  and microscopes. They studied tree bark and leaves and the ground around them. They used their binoculars to hunt for patterns high above them. They had an opportunity to look at the type of patterns in nature and saw how some were symmetrical. “Look ….this is like a zebra” as they studied tree bark that had stripes. They also enjoyed climbing on trees and playing their own imaginative games. They are all extremely good at remembering the games they played last week and continuing them. Then we had a lovely snack and after a quick play once more, it was time to return to the ECC.

Well done everybody!

Fun in the sun

The children had lots of fun taking part in outdoor learning and at playtime last week.  The children enjoy being outside in all weather but, the sunshine had them all in good spirits.

Playtime in the big playground is enjoyed by all children and they love to use their imaginations to make up games with their friends.  They were making kites and trains from scarves, being superheros, shadow drawing and playing football.

In the ECC outdoor space we had clay for the children to explore and investigate, they children made ships and obstacle courses with the Outlast blocks, we made bug houses and some children enjoyed having a seat on the mats, reading to their friends.

Maths in the mini forest.

This morning the Bees had their time in the mini forest. Mrs Thomson had set them a task to make art to hang from the trees but they had to use their maths skills. They had to choose sticks and thread leaves through them. They chatted about the sizes of the resources they collected. They then choose how to hang them and if it was vertical or horizontal.

They had fun climbing in the trees and playing dragons. They lit   fires as they roared flames and showed us how amazing their imaginations are. They noticed how dry the ground has become and placed sticks into in cracks in the mud to see how deep they could go. Well done everybody!

Mini Forest – Badgers

The Badgers spent their morning in the Mini Forest, the weather was glorious. The leaf buds have begun to open and the children took on a new challenge,  collecting natural  materials to take back to the ECC to create our ‘Bug Homes.’ The children discussed size, length and suitability of materials as they worked. “Look Mrs Gray this one is nearly as big as me,” (measuring a stick against his body) “We need to find leaves for the caterpillars.” “I have collected, sticks, sticks and more sticks.” “Its a dandelion…the insects will get nectar.”

The children then broke into smaller groups and began some imaginative play, building a campfire “We can have macaroni cheese.” They used two areas as their homes, moving a branch up and down as a door, “You can come into our home.” The children spoke about the cracks in the earth, “I think it might be moles…they dig and leave earth behind…they might be frightened we are making noise.” “I think the sun made the cracks, the mud has dried up.”

The children then sat together for a snack and drink of water, before looking for more ‘Bug Home’ materials. The children worked together to carry the resources safely back to the ECC, the children will have the opportunity to design and build a range of ‘Bug Homes’ during this weeks sessions.

Welcome Back

Good afternoon everyone,

It was a delight to welcome the children back this morning and it was as if the children had never been away!  The children remembered our handwashing routines, the choosing name cards and that the children are responsible for helping to keep the setting tidy by putting away toys and resources they have finished with!

Today we introduced the children to lunch in the setting, (previously lunch was served in the main hall) and this is where the children will now be served their lunch everyday.  Our catering assistant set up the tables and the children enjoyed sitting with their friends and chatting about their holiday.  More importantly, they really enjoyed lunch and the burgers were huge!

Afterwards, the children enjoyed their chocolate cake outside while enjoying some lovely sunshine!

Please remember as the weather is getting hotter, it is important we have sun cream for your child.  I have reissued the parent consent letters again today.

with kind regards, Mrs Nouillan
