Baking At Home

Good Afternoon,

One of our fantastic children has sent us some photographs of him baking some delicious muffins at home this week.   I hope you enjoyed making and eating them!

There are many learning opportunities while baking with your children; Listening – following verbal instructions from you, mathscounting out the ingredients required, scienceseeing the ingredients change from one thing to another and they are developing their hand and eye co-ordination pouring ingredients into the bowl/cake cases. Most of all, it is fun! Playing, having fun and taking part in real life experiences are one of the best ways for children to learn.

We love to see what your children have been doing at home.  You can email us at:    eadunlop.ecc@eastayrshire.org.uk

We all hope you have a wonderful weekend and we are looking forward to welcoming you back next week.

Take care,

Mrs Marshall

Big Cook Little Cook

Good Afternoon,

I hope you are all doing well.

As you know March is our STEAM month and unfortunately with us all being at home we are not able to carry out all our lovely baking experiences we had planned for this week.  We will provide these experiences on our return but, we wanted to share the recipes with you so if you would like, you can do some baking at home.

The Colour Monster

For World Book day yesterday we read the story ‘The Colour Monster’.  The children went on a hunt outside looking for pictures of ‘The Colour Monster’, they painted and drew pictures of him and we spent a long time talking about the different feelings ‘The Colour Monster’ went through.  The children discussed what makes them feel happy, sad, angry, scared and loved.  We also took part in some relaxation to practice being calm.

I have shared the story for you to listen to at home, if you would like to.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

The Foxes visit the mini forest

Good Afternoon,

Yesterday morning the children in the Fox group visited the mini forest and took me along to show me around.  I am so impressed at how knowledgeable they all were about their safety rules.  The children showed me the boundaries of where they were allowed to go, explained that if they were called back to the safety circle they all had to come right away and that they need to be careful and take their time in case they hurt themselves.

We explored the mini forest, found footprints in the mud, climbed trees and looked for bugs.  It was lovely to see the children so engaged and excited to share their knowledge of the mini forest with me.

I am looking forward to our next adventure.

STEAM Month 2021 The Badgers

The Badgers visited the Mini Forest for an hour long session this morning. We introduced our safety circle, holding hands and facing each other in the circle to ensure our discussion is heard by the whole group. We discussed things to look out for that we should not touch (tell an adult)  such as glass and dog dirt. Things we should not eat, the berries on the trees and bushes (these are eaten by the birds). The areas within our boundaries, the need to ensure we can see and hear each other and where to return as a group during our session.

We then began our challenge to use our observation skills to discover and identify signs of animal/bird tracks/habitat/food sources in our local environment. The children used binoculars and magnifying glasses to look up, down, under, at and through the area. They stood quietly to listen to the birds song, used the binoculars to look closely at the bark, discussed the surface of a rock, built a camp fire, discussed “Garbage.” in the area and how to recycle this and explored the whole area of the Mini Forest. A fantastic first session with The Badgers, during next weeks session we will extend our STEAM learning and skills, taking forward the children’s ideas and interests.

Our First Lunch Time

Good Afternoon,

We have had a lovely first lunch here in the ECC today.  The tables were set up for the children arriving in the lunch hall and the children were all very excited to sit beside their friends for lunch.  We had a lovely social time, chatting to each other while we enjoyed our lunch.  The children demonstrated excellent self help skills by helping to clear the lunch tables.

We have had some very tired children this afternoon but, they have all kept going and enjoyed lots of learning both outdoors and in our STEAM room.  Bedtime might come quickly tonight.

Have a lovely evening!

Kind Regards

Mrs Marshall
