Playground Shape Hunt

This week we have introduced a Talking Thinking Tub to the children, to encourage the children’s enquiry and investigation of 2D shapes and 3D objects in our local environment. The children began their enquiry into shape in the Playground area of the setting, finding a range of circles, squares and a cone. Before extending their hunt into their park walk finding shapes on the pavement, park equipment, in the puddles, clouds and bench.

End of session experiences

This week we have introduced a range of end of session experiences. On Monday Mrs Thomson read a lovely story about Bartholomew Bear and the small black kitten (Be Gentle) leading to some lovely discussion about the children’s pets. On Tuesday Mrs Orr led the children in a range of nursery rhymes and songs including Incy Wincy Spider, Five Little Monkeys and Six Little Speckled Frogs.

Puddle Fun

The Badgers and the Foxes spent their morning exploring the puddles in the large grassed area of the park. We explored their depth and breadth to discover how many children would fit in each puddle. We jumped and splashed before we played a game of hide and seek (I wonder how many children can hide behind a goal post) We worked together to discuss our understanding of safety as the children told us how they would keep themselves safe in the area. Lots of amazing learning and fun.

Outdoor Experiences PM

The afternoon children have welcomed some new friends into the ECC this week. As with the morning session we are having lots of exciting outdoor experiences with the afternoon children. We have continued to take part in our daily park walks, looking at the different colours in our local environment (trees, flowers and shrub’s) the children spend time chatting to each other about the things they have seen. We have spent each afternoon in our outdoor area working together in the mud kitchen making some amazing imaginary meals. The children used the guttering to explore forces discovering if they moved the levels the vehicles could go faster and further across the area. The afternoon children have been decorating the large pebbles with pictures of their parents, animals and a bicycle.

Each sessions ends with a group experiences, Monday-Story Time, Tuesday-Songs and Rhymes, Wednesday-Ring games and Parachute play, Thursday-Circle Time and Friday-Bookbug.

Welcome back to the PM children

We would like to welcome back our afternoon children to Dunlop ECC for their first session of the new term. The children have had a wonderful time with old friends and meeting new ones. We have had lots of fun playing in the outdoor area with the sand, playing with the play-dough, making pictures with the collage (fantastic cutting skills by all) making Duplo farms and block buildings (Dunlop School) and we had an all together snack.

Welcome back.

Hello and welcome !

We are so happy to have our children returning today. They have been so busy playing outside with our Outlast blocks ,building and balancing. The sand was very popular with lots of digging and filling . We enjoyed a lovely snack of cheese and crackers and a chat with our friends. The children enjoyed making pictures and we have put them up on the wall in our main playroom. Today  has been a great start and enjoy our photos of our fun.
