Parent Council<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Darvel Primary School Parent Council\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What we do<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Parent Council is made up of a group of volunteer parents who represent the views and interests of all Darvel Primary School parents and carers on matters relating to education, pupil welfare and school life.<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as supporting and promoting parental involvement in the work and life of the school, the Parent Council aims to create a strong partnership between the school, the pupils and all parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can find out more about what we do and our ways of working in the Darvel Primary School Parent Council Constitution (see below)<\/span><\/p>\n

Please note, the term \u2018parent\u2019 refers to all parents, carers or guardians who have caring responsibilities for a child or children at Darvel Primary School.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who we are<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

We try, where possible, to have parent representatives for each year group on the Council.\u00a0 The full members and associate members for 2024\/2025 are:<\/span><\/p>\n

P1 \u2013 Joanna Wilks (also p3 and p5), Louise Thomas, Lia Nissan-Lowit<\/span><\/p>\n

P2 \u2013 Gillian Harman (<\/span>Chair<\/span>)(also p7), Adrienne Wallace (<\/span>Vice Chair<\/span>), Claire Douglas (<\/span>Secretary<\/span>)(also p5), Laura McWhirter (<\/span>Treasurer<\/span>), Alison Mackay (also p6), Jasmin Pollock, Vicki Lamb (also p7)<\/span><\/p>\n

P3 \u2013 Laura Hodge (also p7), Louise Meek (also p5)<\/span><\/p>\n

P4 \u2013 Jacqueline McInally (also p7)<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to parent members, we also co-opt members of teaching\/support staff who help to support the work of the Parent Council.\u00a0 The teaching members for 2024\/2025 are Miss Cassels (PT) and Miss Taggart.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When we meet\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Parent Council meets regularly over the course of the school year, typically every six weeks (excluding holidays), to discuss matters which are of importance to parents.\u00a0 The Head Teacher, Mr McIlwraith, or his Deputy, Mr Orr, also attend these meetings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents are encouraged to raise matters and issues to be discussed at these meetings and are also warmly welcomed to attend.\u00a0 Notice of upcoming meetings are posted on the Parent Council Facebook page (see below) and on the School App.<\/span><\/p>\n

The minutes from the Parent Council meetings are posted on the School App and the Parent Council Facebook Page (see below) following each meeting.\u00a0 To request a hard copy of the minutes, please contact the School Office.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parent Council Facebook Page<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Parent Council has its own Facebook Page \u2018Darvel Primary School Parent Council\u2019 which parents with access to the internet are encouraged to join.\u00a0 Here we share and post useful school and Parent Council information and reminders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fundraising\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Parent Council supports the work of the school through fundraising events and activities; helping to support our sense of community and to raise much needed funds for the benefit of the pupils.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the past we have organised and held raffles, bingo nights, Christmas fayres, Summer fetes, colour runs and other seasonal activities.\u00a0 The money raised is used by the school in a number of ways,\u00a0<\/span>in consultation with the Parent Council, including funding\/contributing to trips, purchasing of resources for pupils, buying refreshments and snacks for extra-curricular activities and providing end of term entertainment, to name but a few examples.<\/p>\n

This is a document which sets out the overall objectives and responsibilities of the Parent Council, as well as detailing how the Parent Council works and runs.<\/span><\/p>\n
