Darvel Primary Parent Council
What we do
The Parent Council is made up of a group of volunteer parents who represent the views and interests of all Darvel Primary parents and carers on matters relating to education, pupil welfare and school life.
As well as supporting and promoting parental involvement in the work and life of the school, the Parent Council aims to create a strong partnership between the school, the pupils and all parents.

Please note, the term ‘parent’ refers to all parents, carers or guardians who have caring responsibilities for a child or children at Darvel Primary School.
Who we are
We try, where possible, to have parent representatives for each year group on the Council. The parent and associate members for 2021/2022 are:
P1 – Nicola Quigley, Kari Fulford (P4), Jacqueline McInally (P4)
P2 – Louise Smith (Chair), Joanna Wilks (Treasurer), Claire Douglas, Heather Jones
P3 – Sarah Riley
P4 – Gillian Harman (Secretary), Laura Emery (Vice Chair), Laura Hodge
P5 – Stephen O’Neill (P2), Laura Dodds
P6/P7 – Moira Stephenson
In addition to parent members, we also co-opt members of teaching/support staff who help to support the work of the Parent Council. The teaching members for 2021/2022 are Miss Cassels (PT) and Mrs Richardson.
When we meet
The Parent Council meets regularly over the course of the school year, typically every 4 to six weeks (excluding holidays), to discuss matters which are of importance to parents. The Head Teacher, Mrs Doncaster, or her Deputy, Mr Orr, also attend these meetings.
Parents are encouraged to raise matters and issues to be discussed at these meetings and are also warmly welcomed to attend. Notice of upcoming meetings are posted on our Facebook page (see below) and on the School App.

The Parent Council has its own Facebook Page ‘Darvel Primary School Parent Council’ which parents with access to the internet are encouraged to join. Here we share and post useful school and Parent Council information and reminders
Fundraising
The Parent Council supports the work of the school through fundraising events and activities; helping to support our sense of community and to raise much needed funds for the benefit of the pupils.
In the past we have organised and held raffles, quiz nights, sponsored events, bake sales, Christmas fayres, and other seasonal activities. The money raised is used by the school in a number of ways including funding/contributing to trips, purchasing of resources for pupils, buying refreshments and snacks for extra-curricular activities to name but a few examples.
