{"id":1311,"date":"2020-06-22T07:30:43","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T07:30:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/dalrymplepspecc\/?p=1311"},"modified":"2020-06-17T11:09:48","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T11:09:48","slug":"outdoor-learning-making-your-own-rain-measure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/dalrymplepspecc\/2020\/06\/22\/outdoor-learning-making-your-own-rain-measure\/","title":{"rendered":"Outdoor Learning &#8211; making your own rain measure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>You can find out how much rain falls where you live by making your own rain measure<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will need:<\/strong><br \/>\nAn empty plastic bottle (2 litre fizzy drink bottle would be ideal)<br \/>\nScissors<br \/>\nSticky tape<br \/>\nRuler<br \/>\nPaper<br \/>\nPencil<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to do:<\/strong><br \/>\nCut around the plastic bottle about two thirds of the way up.<br \/>\nYour bottle needs a flat bottom to be able to measure the rainfall properly.<br \/>\nTurn the top part of the bottle upside down and place it inside the bottom part &#8211; fix it in place using the tape.<br \/>\nMake a scale in centimetres on a piece of tape, using a ruler, and fix it to the side of your bottle.<br \/>\nFind a place outside to put your rain gauge. It must be open and away from trees.<br \/>\nDig a hole and bury your rain gauge so that the top is sticking out of the ground. This will stop the rain gauge from blowing down on windy days.<br \/>\nCheck the rain gauge every day at the same time, measure the amount of rain collected, and empty the bottle.<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t forget to write down the amount of rain collected in your weather diary.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mimg\" src=\"https:\/\/th.bing.com\/th\/id\/OIP.dRH17LC2KDPaixpzRjV7FQHaLG?w=179&amp;h=268&amp;c=7&amp;o=5&amp;pid=1.7\" alt=\"Image result for how to make a rain gage nursery children\" width=\"179\" height=\"268\" data-thhnrepbd=\"1\" data-bm=\"46\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can find out how much rain falls where you live by making your own rain measure.
