We had a more active approach to our Numeracy lesson today when we were learning about displaying information on a Carroll diagram.  We all really enjoyed it and look forward to doing more activities like this 🙂

07/02/19

Our latest technology challenge was to build a symmetrical object or pattern with a minimum of 50 pieces.  Take a look at what we created:

As part of STEM day, and linked to our current topic of ‘Around the World in 80 Days’, we were learning about the traditions of Chinese people when celebrating Chinese New Year.  We had to design and construct our own Chinese dragons which are a massive part of the celebrations.

01/02/19

This afternoon we were discussing the need to be safe when using different forms social media and what is acceptable/unacceptable when online.  Through an online game, we were given different scenarios to think about and we had to decide what the best solution was.

31/01/19

We had a visit from the SSPCA today.  We really enjoyed building the robot rabbit and then programming it to do different things.

Our Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired designs look fantastic displayed in the open area.

On the way to gym yesterday, Mason asked why the doors along the corridor were open when they should be shut as they are fire doors.  Due to this, Mason, with the help of Liam, have been given the role of ‘Fire Door Wardens’ whenever we are moving around the school.  Well done Mason – we definitely want to help keep everyone safe in our school.

17/01/19

This week involved us actually building our own name with just the Lego.

09/01/19

Throughout this term, we are going to be completing some technology challenges using the construction materials.  Today’s challenge involved building something that began with the first letter of our name…can you guess what we built?

Happy new year from P5

This afternoon we worked in pairs or trios to make reversible banners that say ‘Happy New Year’ in French.

They look fantastic!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

21/11/18

During Health and Wellbeing this term, we have been looking at Substance Misuse, with a particular focus on smoking.  This afternoon we were discussing the ingredients of cigarettes, then Miss Hunter challenged us to make a model cigarette which also detailed the ingredients in them.

Well done!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

15/11/18

We had a great day today taking part in our Children in Need activities.

We also revised our understanding of plotting co-ordinate points by making pictures of Pudsey.

These are absolutely wonderful!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

30/10/18

As an early finisher to our numeracy work today, Miss Hunter challenged us to make cube shapes using the ‘Happy Cubes’.  These are foam jigsaw pieces that fit together exactly to make cubes.  Well done to Malysha and Sophie who managed to use their problem solving skills and for having a growth mindset by not giving up after their first attempt 🙂

That looks really tricky!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

11/10/18

We brought our learning of co-ordinates and area together today.  We worked in pairs to see who captured the biggest total area of islands after plotting them on the grid using the co-ordinates that were given.

You all look so engrossed in the task!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

03/10/18

While the girls were at Active Girls Day with Ross, the rest of us used an online comic strip maker to recreate part of Mary Queen of Scots’ life.

Well done, boys!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

28/09/18

We got a little creative with our Active Literacy spelling activity today when we got to write our words as colourfully as we could.

26/09/18

We became masters at decoding today during our STEM challenge.  Miss Hunter provided us with this code:

WKHUH  DUH  ORWV  RI  GLIIHUHQW  FRGHV

and we had to try and work it out.  We did have a letter wheel to help us but Miss Hunter gave us no clues at all.  Lots of us managed to work it out, with Murron, McKinley, Olivia and Oli getting Head teacher’s awards for their teamwork in decoding the message.

Very well done to you all!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

11/09/18

We have been revising how to use grid references to find specific positions on a grid.  We took our learning outside this afternoon and used the school grounds to find letters that Miss Hunter had hidden.  She gave us the grid reference and we had to find this on the map, before going to that place and finding the letter she had hidden.

I like how you are applying the skills you learned at Dean Castle!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

06/09/18

Much of our work since returning to school has been focused on working together with one another and following instructions and rules for games.  We had great fun this afternoon teaching each other and playing different card games.

You do look like you’re having fun!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

Miss Hunter even managed to get in on the fun and joined a game of ‘Scabby Queen’ 🙂

05/09/18

We all had a great time at Dean Castle on our residential trip.  This was us ready to set the rafts we built off down the river and to follow their journey to the finish line.

Dean Castle was amazing!  I had a great time with you all.  You should be so proud of yourselves.  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)
