We had great fun this afternoon making our own shields for our ‘Knights and Castles’ topic.  We thought about our designs first, before using gold, silver and copper paint to add colour to them.

These look amazing!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We took our learning outdoors again today when we were trying to compare objects to the length of a metre stick.  In our pairs we had to find objects that were longer than, shorter than or about the same size as the metre stick.

We have been preparing for ‘Dressed by the Kids’ day on Friday by doing some activities about OXFAM’s theme eat, drink, earn, learn.  We watched a short film before getting the chance to speak to different partners about what we like to eat, drink and learn.  We finished off by working in small groups to put our ideas on to paper.

Recently we have been learning all about adjectives and how we can use these in our writing to make it more interesting for whoever reads it.  Our morning challenge this week has been to brainstorm adjectives to describe a variety of things at different settings, and this morning we were thinking about a farm.

After we brainstormed our words this morning, we read ‘Farmyard Hullabaloo’ to see if we could identify adjectives used in the text to describe the different farmyard animals.

Good adjectives!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

Primary 2 really enjoy playing lots of different games in mental during our numeracy lessons.

Xander and Cara were chosen by the random button on Dojo to complete our games of ‘Snakey’ using the big 100 board.

We then made patterns on the board by adding 9 and 11 to different numbers:

We finished with a game of boys vs girls, where all the questions were based on what comes after or before a specific day of the week or month of the year.  The lucky winners today were… … the boys 🙂 Well done boys!

We’ve had fun this morning working in groups to sort other real life objects depending on the 3D shape that they are.

Wow!  You have been working hard at Maths and Numeracy, P2!  (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

It’s been great to get out and enjoy the sunny weather, while learning at the same time.  We have been looking at 3D shapes so went on a hunt around the playground to see the shapes we could find in real life.  Some of the shapes we found were:

Cylinders: stepping stones on the trim trail, flag pole and the poles on the climbing frame

Cubes: outdoor classroom planters and the water container

Cuboids: wooden posts of the outdoor classroom, bricks and the walking beam

Cone: top of the pencil bin

P2 have enjoyed taking part in ‘Walk to School Week’.  We’ve had a variety of hats, happy shoes, VERY bright clothes, crazy hair and finishing off with our odd socks today 🙂  It was great to see that by the end of the week, a lot more of us were walking to school or coming on a bike or scooter and enjoying the sunny weather.

This is a fab picture, P2! (From Mrs O’Driscoll)

We’ve been doing a lot of work on ‘Time’ during our numeracy lessons, learning about o’clock and half past times on both analogue and digital clocks.  We have been doing lots of active activities to learn about time, and have been encouraging discussions about what time it is and how long it is until the next activity when it arises.

Planting Seedlings, March 2017

Primary 2 transplanted the seedlings that we have been growing in class. They also got the chance to plant their own sunflower seed which they will get to take home when it has grown.

I look forward to seeing how tall your sunflowers grow! (From Mrs O’Driscoll)
