Primary 7 – Mrs McKenna

Goodbye from Mrs Schendel

Hi Primary 7.  I have hijacked your page to say goodbye. I can’t believe that is you heading off to the academy, I can clearly remember you coming for your visit in P1!  Have a fantastic time at the secondary school, it will fly past too.  Take every opportunity that is presented to you and continue to do the very best you can.  We didn’t get the finish to your primary school career that we had hoped but we look forward to welcoming you back for your leavers assembly where we will get to say a proper goodbye.

I hope you all have a great summer and remember to stay safe.

Mrs Schendel

Friday 26th June

Well P7, we have finally made it to the last day of term and your final day as a pupil at Catrine Primary School. I can’t quite believe it! I don’t think any of us could ever have imagined that this would be how your year would end.

I have loved being your teacher this year and would just like to thank you all for your hard work. Keep up the great work at the academy, and I know you will all go on to achieve great things.

Since you are not in school today, all of the staff have a wee message for you to wish you all the best for moving on. Have a look!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Stay safe and please keep in touch.

Wednesday 24th June

Good morning everyone,

We are halfway through the final week of term. I would like to share a wee video that I have made of your year in P7. I hope you enjoy watching it.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/catrinepsmain2019/

Remember that the East Ayrshire Sumdog contest finishes tomorrow, it would be great to see our class on the leaderboard.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at our P7 information session.

Have a lovely day!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 22nd June

Good morning P7,

It’s the final week of term, can you believe it??? Who would have thought when you started P7 in August that this is how your last year of primary school would be ending. The past few months have certainly been very strange! Please keep an eye on the blog this week as I have a few surprises for you.

I am looking forward to another Teams meeting today. I have changed the time to 1pm to allow some others to join in, speak to you then! On Thursday there is also a P7 information session at 10.30am in the main playground. This will be a chance to answer questions you have about moving up to the academy. It would also be great to see you all in person and to be able to say goodbye.

This week is our ‘Virtual Bump Up’ week and I would like you to think about what advice you would give to the new P7’s. Your task today is to e-mail me any advice that you have so that I can pass it on. Thank you!

Last week was the final P7 Sumdog maths competition and the results are as follows: 1st place Evie (200 points), 2nd place Sophie (100 points) and 3rds place Aimee (50 points). I have also awarded 50 points to Calvin and Dylan for taking part too. Great work everyone! Remember that the East Ayrshire Sumdog contest is running until Thursday, good luck.

On BBC Bitesize today you can learn to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes in Maths, learn how to write comics and use ellipsis in English and find out about the kingdom of Benin in History.

Have a great last week!

Mrs McKenna

Friday 19th June

It’s Friday!!!!

I can’t believe that next week is the final week of term, and your last week as a primary school pupil! This school year has just flown in; although it’s such a pity it hasn’t ended the way we had hoped. Here’s a wee throwback to the start of P7, just look at how much some of you have changed!

Due to a couple of requests, I have scheduled another Teams meeting for 11am on Monday morning. I know there were a few of you who were unable to make it this week, so it would be lovely to chat to you if you can join in.

On BBC Bitesize today there are some great maths challenges. You can also learn how to summarise a character and share your opinion, as well as learning the basics of how to know what information you can trust online.

Remember you have until 3pm today to take part in the final P7 maths competition on Sumdog. The East Ayrshire contest also starts today and will run until Thursday. It would be great to see some of your names on the leaderboard, good luck!

Mrs McKenna

Wednesday 17th June

Hi everyone,

I have to start off by apologising for the extremely late post today! I had written the post on my laptop at home and forgot to post it before I went into school today, sorry. I am just home after spending the day in school tidying up and setting things up for after the summer. It was really lovely to be back in the classroom and to see everybody, but it was very strange without you all there.

Thank you to those of you who joined me on Teams to have a chat on Monday, it was great to speak to you all and have a catch up. Emilie enjoyed speaking to you too!

Last week I asked you to write a blog post about your primary school memories and I really enjoyed reading them.  I would now like you to reflect on P7 and write a short post on your Glow blog, you could include some photos too. Some of the things you might want to include are:

What are you most proud of?

What is the most important thing you have learned?

What has been your best memory from this year?

How are you feeling about next year?

What are you looking forward to?

How have you changed this year?

What do you want to be when you leave school?

What will you miss about primary school?

I look forward to reading your posts.

Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to take part in the final P7 maths competition on Sumdog. There will be rewards for those of you that come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Have a good day!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 15th June

Good morning P7,

I hope that you all had a great weekend. I have been out running a lot this weekend and had a lovely afternoon in the sunshine yesterday with my mum and sister. We enjoyed a social distance catch up in my sister’s garden and it was so nice all being together for the first time in ages!  What have you all been up to?

Thank you to those of you who sent me your photos for the Leavers video last week, I have only received seven photos, so if you haven’t done so can you get them to me ASAP. This is your final chance!

Today I would like you to join me for a chat on Teams at 11am. It would be lovely to have a chat and a catch up with you all; I look forward to talking to you later. Remember there are help sheets for accessing Teams on the Glow blog.

This week on Sumdog you can take part in a maths competition which will finish at 3pm on Friday. The results from the competitions set for you last week are:

Maths: 1st Evie, 2nd Calvin and 3rd Dylan

Spelling: 1st Sophie, 2nd Evie and 3rd Dylan

Grammar: 1st Sophie (the only pupil to take part!)

Well done, you have all been rewarded with some extra coins. I have also entered the class into the last East Ayrshire Sumdog contest for this session which starts on Friday and finishes on the 25th June. Good luck!

On BBC Bitesize today you can you learn to form and solve two step equations, analyse and perform poems and find out about the Vikings and their life in Britain.

Have a great day!

Mrs McKenna

Friday 12th June

Good morning everyone,

It’s Friday again, and we only have another two weeks left of term!  Thank you to those of you who posted about your primary school memories, I have really enjoyed reading them and seeing your photos too. If you haven’t already done so, please send me your photo for the Leavers video today so that I can start getting to work on it.

Today I would like you to have a look at Microsoft Teams if you haven’t already done so. I know that some of you have already been accessing Teams and know how to use it. If not then you can check out Miss Burleigh’s post on the Glow blog, as she has given some help sheets to help you get set up.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/catrinepsmain2019/

I have scheduled a Teams meeting for 11am on Monday so that we can have a chat, it would be lovely to speak to you all!

Wednesday 10th June

Good morning P7,

I hope you are having a great week so far! Thank you so much to those of you who have already sent me your photos for the Leavers video, they are great and it has been lovely to see your faces. Those of you who haven’t done so yet, try and send them to me by the end of the week. Thanks!

Today I would like you to do a bit of reflecting on your time at primary school. I would like you to write a Glow blog post with the title ‘My Primary School Memories’. Some ideas you might want to include in your post are your greatest achievement, school trips, what you are most proud of and memories from each stage. You could also include some photographs. Here is a photo of me on my first day at primary school, check out the hairstyle and specs!

I look forward to reading your posts and seeing some of your photos.

On BBC Bitesize today you can learn how to substitute simple expressions and formulae in Maths, to use commas in English and about reversible and irreversible changes in Science.

Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to take part in the Sumdog competitions set for you this week. A new feature of Sumdog means that I can now reward pupils by sending extra coins, so look out for this.

Have a lovely day!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 8th June

Good morning everyone,

It’s Monday again, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Yesterday I should have been running ‘Roon the Toon’, however it has been postponed until later in the year. So I thought I’d better get my trainers on and attempt a 10k wearing one of my old ‘Roon the Toon’ t-shirts. It’s the furthest I’ve run in a long time and it was very hot; however I managed it! What have you been getting up to? Remember you can keep me updated by posting on your blog.

Today I would like to start thinking about marking your last year at primary school. I would love to make a Leavers video, but to do this I need all of your help. What I need you to do is to write your name, Catrine Primary School, P7 Leaver and 2020 on a sheet of paper (as shown below). Make it big, bright and colourful! Then get someone at home to take a picture of your holding the sheet of paper and e-mail it to me.

Leavers Poster

A new set of spelling words have been added to Sumdog as well as some new competitions. You have until 3pm on Friday to take part, good luck!

Today on BBC Bitesize you can learn about algebra and function machines, how to use apostrophes and about Anglo-Saxon art and culture.

Have a great day!

Mrs McKenna

Friday 5th June

Good morning P7,

It’s the last day of our Health Week which means that it’s Sports Day! The P7 race is an obstacle race, so I would like to set up an obstacle course in your garden. This could involve using cereal boxes to create hurdles, using a sheet/cover to crawl under and then using a pillow case as a sack to jump to the finish line. I am sure you will have lots of great and imaginative ideas for your obstacle course. Have fun!

You also have a 1 minute speed bounce challenge to complete. I would like you to jump over a rolled up towel, two feet to two feet, and see how many bounces you can complete in 1 minute. On your marks, get set, go!

Today is also Fruity Friday so I would like to see you making a healthy snack with fruit. This could be a fruit salad, fruit kebabs, a fresh fruit smoothie or even fruity ice lollies. Emilie and I love making strawberry ice lollies, they are so easy to make. All you need to do is blend strawberries, yoghurt and honey together and then pour into ice lolly moulds. Put them into the freezer overnight and they are ready to eat the next day.

Remember to update your Glow blog with photos and results of your race/challenge. I look forward to seeing your posts.

Here are a few photos of the stones I painted and hid on my walk yesterday for Thoughtful Thursday.

I hope you have enjoyed Health Week, have a great weekend!

Mrs McKenna

Wednesday 3rd June

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are having fun and enjoying Health Week so far. Yesterday Emilie and I had great fun making a dance routine for  TikTok Tuesday.  Here is our video.

I would love to see your TikTok videos so upload them to your Glow blog.

Today is Walking Wednesday, so I would like you to take some time to go for a walk with your family. I would like you to think about using your senses when you go for your walk. Think about what you can see, hear, smell and feel. On my walk this morning I saw some cows, rabbits, a squirrel and a rainbow painted on a tree trunk. I could hear the birds chirping in the trees and fire engine sirens. I could smell the scent of flowers and wild garlic. I could feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. Where will you go on your walk? What will you see, hear, smell and feel? You could take some photos and post them on your blog. Here are a few photos from my walk today.

Yesterday I found a beautiful bumble bee painted stone on my walk and it really made me smile. So I have decided that for Thoughtful Thursday I am going to paint some stones. When I go my walk tomorrow morning I am going to leave them somewhere for people to find, and hopefully they will make someone smile too.  What will you do to be thoughtful tomorrow?

I look forward to seeing your blog posts.

Have a lovely day!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 1st June

Good morning,

Here we are again at the start of a new month, your last month in P7! Can you believe it? I know I can’t as the weeks just seem to be flying in. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and have been enjoying this glorious weather.

This week is Health Week and I will be setting you lots of tasks and activities with a focus on Health and Wellbeing. We will also be having our Virtual Sports Day on Friday. Mrs Ferguson has come up with some great ideas for a focus each day which are:

Mindfulness Monday

Today our focus is on mindfulness. Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really notice what you’re doing. Being mindful is the opposite of rushing or multitasking. When you’re mindful, you’re taking your time. You’re focusing in a relaxed, easy way. I have given you a link that has some ideas for mindfulness exercises that you and your parents could try. You might also want to try doing some guided meditation as I know some of you really enjoyed this when we did it in the classroom.

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/10-mindfulness-exercises-kids

TikTok Tuesday

Tuesday is all about dancing! I would love to see you learn a dance routine or make up your own. Get everyone in your family involved and make a video. It would be great to see you posting your videos on your Glow blog. Have fun!

Walking Wednesday

Wednesday is all about walking. I have set myself a challenge this month to walk 100 miles, and I have been getting up early every morning to go for a walk. It’s a really great way to start the day. On Wednesday I would like you to take some time to go for a walk with your family.

Thoughtful Thursday

On Thursday I would like you to think about ways you can be thoughtful. This could involve giving someone a compliment, helping out with jobs around the house or saying thank you to someone. Small acts of thoughtfulness can really help to make people smile.

Fruity Friday

To finish off the week I would like you to think about making a healthy snack with fruit. This could be a fruit salad, fruit kebabs, a fresh fruit smoothie or even fruity ice lollies.

The results of last week’s Sumdog maths competition are:

1st – Dylan

2nd – Sophie

3rd – Aimee

Great work everyone! I haven’t set any competitions for you this week due to our focus on Health Week, competitions will resume again next Monday.

Have a great day Mindfulness Monday!

Mrs McKenna

Friday 29th May

Good morning everyone,

It’s another sunny day. I hope you have all been enjoying the lovely weather we have been having this week. I certainly have! I have been getting up early every morning to go for a walk; I’ve been running and have even been doing a spot of sunbathing in the garden. It has been fantastic!

I have really enjoyed speaking to some of you and your parents already this week, and plan to try phoning again later today to catch up with those of you that I have missed. It has been so lovely to speaking to you and hearing your voices.

Today I thought I would give you a task that you could do outside. I would like you to make your own game of naughts and crosses. All you need are some sticks, stones and string. You can then have fun playing with someone in the garden. I would love to see you posting pictures of your games on your Glow blogs.

Remember you have until 3pm today to take part in the Sumdog maths competition set for you this week, I will announce the winners on Monday.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine! Please remember to stay safe and be sensible in the sun.

Mrs McKenna

Wednesday 27th May

Good morning P7,

I hope you have all had a lovely long weekend. It was a bit wet and miserable, so I’m really glad that sunshine has now returned. I have been trying to make the most of the nicer weather by getting up early in the morning to go for a walk. It really sets me up for the day! What have you been up to?

This week I will be phoning you all to see how you are doing and to have a catch up. I am planning to phone on Thursday and Friday and am so excited to speak to you all and hear about what you have been getting up to. I haven’t spoken to you all since March, so it’s been a while!

I know some of you will be feeling a bit anxious about the transition to secondary school after hearing that you will be starting secondary school at Cumnock Academy, and not The Robert Burns Academy as planned. I hope that I can have a chat with you all about that when I phone home this week. The BBC Bitesize website has t lots of advice and support for starting secondary school which you may find helpful. Follow the link to have a look: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zh4wy9q/starting-secondary-school/1

This week I have only set a maths competition on Sumdog, you have until 3pm on Friday to take part. The results of the competitions set for you last week are as follows:

Maths Competition – 1st Ewan, 2nd Sophie and 3rd Aimee

Spelling Competition – 1st Sophie, 2nd Ewan and 3rd Aimee

I look forward to speaking to you all this week, have a great day!

Mrs McKenna

Friday 22nd May

Good morning everyone,

It’s nearly the end of another week of home learning. How are you all getting on?  I have to admit that I’ve been finding things a bit hard this week. I am really missing my family and friends, and I am also missing coming to work every day and seeing all of you. These are things that I took for granted before, and will never take for granted again once this is all over. I find that going for a long walk or a run can help when I’m having a bad day. What helps you?

Continuing with the theme of kindness for Mental Health Awareness Week, I want you to think about ways of being kind to yourself. I have attached a sheet with some ideas about how you can be kind to yourself, and I want you to think of some of your own and how you can carry out these ideas. Yesterday I took some time to relax and did some yoga, which I really enjoyed. It would be great to see you posting your ideas on your blog.

Be Kind to Yourself

Today on BBC there are some great maths challenges that you can try. You can also learn how to compare texts and write from a character’s perspective, and composing music from found sounds. There will be no new lessons on BBC Bitesize next week as they are taking a break, but will be back on June 1st.

Remember you have until 3pm today to compete in the Sumdog competitions. It is a holiday on Monday, so I will post again on Wednesday and announce the winners.

Be kind to yourself and have a great weekend.

Mrs McKenna

Wednesday 20th May

Good morning P7,

We are halfway through the week already!

This week it is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is kindness. Research shows that kindness and our mental health are deeply connected. We did a lot of work on kindness earlier in the year when we read the book ‘Wonder’ and today I would like you to think about ways of being kind to others. I have attached some challenge cards for socially distant random acts of kindness and I would like you to try some of the challenges, or come up with some ideas of your own. I would love to see you posting your random acts of kindness on your blogs.

Socially Distant Random Acts of Kindness Challenge Cards

Today on BBC Bitesize you can learn how to prepare and draft a thank you letter, which could be one of your acts of kindness. You can also learn to divide decimals by integers and discover more about magnets and how they work.

Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to compete in the Sumdog competitions, I will be announcing the winners again on Monday.

Have a lovely day and remember to be kind!

Mrs McKenna

I really want you to have a memorable end to your primary school education, so let’s do something fun. So get your thinking caps on and e-mail me with any ideas you might have. I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a great day.

Friday 15th May

Happy Friday!

It’s the end of the week, and I’m looking forward to the weekend. Tonight my family are having another ‘Come Dine With Me’ night and it’s my turn to make the main course. I’m going to be spending this afternoon in the kitchen making beef ragu. Wish me luck!

It’s the last day of the Loch Down Lodge residential trip and the activities are map making and adventure stories. I would love to see if you have tried any of the activities this week, remember to post on your blog or e-mail me. I would really like to hear what you are getting up to!

Wednesday 13th May

Good morning everyone,

How are you all getting on? I hope you are having a good week so far. I’ve been doing lots to keep busy – running, walking, jigsaws, taking photos for my monthly challenge and learning British Sign Language. This week I have been learning fingerspelling and numbers, and passed my first assessment with full marks!

Today on the Loch Down Lodge residential trip the activities are den building and story telling. I made a den in the garden with Emilie using camping chairs, blankets and clothes pegs – it was great fun!

I would love to see you building your own den today and posting a photo on your blog. It’s a lovely day, so get outside and see what different materials you can use to build your den.  https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/learningoutdoorssupportteam/the-alternative-residential-trip-loch-down-lodge/?fbclid=IwAR1pt0U_i3bEB77Kq8vuW6s1M7TCinDMj5vfjHwGwzqXCPu84YhiH6eSC_Q

On BBC Bitesize you can learn how to write a strong argument, dividing fractions by integers and explore adaptations in animals and plants.

Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to compete in the Sumdog competitions and challenges for this week.

Have a great day!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 11th May

Good morning P7,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! It’s Monday again and the start of yet another week of home learning. I’m not sure about you, but I feel like the weeks are passing really quickly considering we are on lockdown. I would love to hear about what you have been getting up to, so remember to post on your blog or keep me updated via e-mail.

We were very lucky that we were able to go on our residential trip before all of this happened, as some P7’s have had their trip cancelled. I know that those of you who went to Dolphin House had a great time, so today I have included a link for an alternative residential trip which you can all do at home. The Loch Down Lodge residential trip resource includes video clips for two activities each day, as well as challenges or follow up activities. The activities for today are orienteering and knots. Have a go, have fun and learn some new skills! https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/learningoutdoorssupportteam/the-alternative-residential-trip-loch-down-lodge/?fbclid=IwAR1pt0U_i3bEB77Kq8vuW6s1M7TCinDMj5vfjHwGwzqXCPu84YhiH6eSC_Q

Wednesday 6th May

Good morning P7,

I hope you are having a good week so far. Last night my family had another ‘Come Dine With Me’ night, but instead of cooking we decided to order a Domino’s pizza. It was so good! What have you all been getting up to?

This week is Deaf Awareness Week, which aims to increase understanding and challenge perceptions of hearing loss and deafness. With this in mind I have decided to use my time just now to learn a new skill and have signed up for a British Sign Language online course. If you fancy learning some fingerspelling then have a look at the following website. I have been playing the fingerspelling game and it has been helping me to improve and practise my skills.https://www.british-sign.co.uk/fingerspelling-alphabet-charts/

On Friday, the UK will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (also known as VE Day). It marks 75 years since the Second World War ended in Europe on 8th May 1945, and is celebrated in countries throughout the world. In the UK, we generally celebrate VE Day with a 2-minute silence at 11am. It gives us a chance to remember those people who lost their lives and to reflect on the pain and suffering caused by war. It is for this reason that VE Day is still important today. Follow the link to have a look at the Poppy Scotland website for fun activities and learning resources:  http://learning.poppyscotland.org.uk/veday75/. I know some of you have been busy baking so you might like these great recipes for poppy cupcakes and biscuits: https://www.poppyscotland.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/PS-Tea-n-toast-recipe-sheets-1.pdf

Today on BBC Bitesize there are lessons on adding and subtracting fractions, using relative causes and how plants reproduce. Follow the link on previous posts to access these lessons.

Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to take part in the Sumdog spelling challenge and competitions that have been set for you this week. I will announce the winners again on Monday.

Take care, stay safe and keep in touch!

Mrs McKenna

Monday 4th May

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another week of home learning. I have been making the most of the sunshine again this weekend and spent lots of time in the garden and going out for walks. I also started my ‘Photo a day challenge’ which I am really enjoying. One of my challenges was to take a photo of a view from a window, so here is the view from my window the other night when the sun was setting.

What have you been getting up to? Keep me updated via your blog or e-mail, I really love hearing from you. I have seen some of you keeping busy by baking, drawing, making board games and setting up obstacle courses. Since the good weather is set to continue, here are some ideas for some outdoor learning activities. Mrs Ferguson did one of these activities at the weekend, she pitched a tent in her garden! It would be great to see you having a go at some of these, as they look great fun.

Outdoor Activities

This week your weekly spelling words have been added to Sumdog, you have until 3pm on Friday to have a go at a spelling challenge and new competitions for this week. The results from the competitions set for you last week are as follows:

Friday 1st May

Happy Friday! I can’t quite believe it, but it’s the start of a new month.

Yesterday I completed my 30 day jump rope challenge and managed to skip 1000 times in one workout! I am going to try and keep it up and skip for 5 minutes every day now. I made a wee TikTok video of me skipping last night for you all to see!

I have really enjoyed having a challenge to complete every day, so have decided that this month I am going to do a photo challenge. Wednesday 29th April

Good morning everyone,

I hope that you are all well. We have been so lucky with the weather recently and I’m a bit disappointed that the rain has returned, although it’s been a while since we have had any so we can’t really complain.

I have really been missing my family and since we can’t be together we decided to have a  ‘Come Dine With Me’ night last night. My brother in law made the main, a delicious chicken satay, and I made the dessert which was a cherry chocolate mousse. My sister dropped the food off at our door and we arranged a time to eat it together via Zoom. It felt like we were eating in a restaurant! We are planning on doing this once a week as it was so nice to see each other and have a chat. What are you doing to keep in touch with your family and friends?

‘Come Dine With Me’ via Zoom

Today on BBC Bitesize you can learn how to identify common factors, common multiples and prime numbers in maths. There are also lessons on using bullet points in English and mixing, dissolving and separation in science. Follow the link and click on Year 6/P7 for the lessons: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

Well done to those of you who have had a go at the competitions set for you this week on Sumdog. Remember you have until 3pm on Friday to take part. Good luck!

We only have a couple of days left of April, so today I would like you to think of a setting yourself a challenge for next month. I have been completing a skipping challenge this month and it has been great at helping me stay active, I have really enjoyed it. So have a think about what you could do and let me know via e-mail. It could be a challenge to do with fitness, reading, drawing, Lego or to learn a new skill.

Have a great day!

Monday 27th April

Good morning all,

I hope you had a great weekend! I have been making the most of the lovely weather and have been spending lots of time in the garden. We had the paddling pool out again at the weekend and yesterday I built a den with Emilie. I have also been out running and walking to stay active and have been enjoying some lovely views.

Well done to those of you who had a go at the challenges set for you on Sumdog last week. The results are as follows: top of the leaderboard for spelling was Kiera, Rhys was the leader in the grammar challenge and Ewan was top in the maths challenge. Great work! This week I have set you a multiplication check to see which times tables need more practice (if any) and competitions in spelling, grammar and maths. You have until 3pm on Friday to take part in the competitions, good luck!

The lessons on BBC Bitesize today include a history lesson on the Ancient Egyptians, multi-step addition and subtractions problems and using punctuation and paragraphs. Follow the link and click on Year 6/P7:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

Your spelling words for this week are homophones and confusions and are as follows: would/wood, your/you’re, one/won, night/knight, new/knew, muscle/mussel, morning/mourning.

Remember to share your learning on your blogs, I would love to see more of you posting to see what you are all getting up to.

Have a great day!

Friday 24th April

Good morning everyone,

It’s another lovely sunny day and the good weather is set to continue this weekend too. I have been loving the sunshine and have been spending lots of time in the garden and going for walks this week. Thank you to those of you who have e-mailed or posted on your blog to let me know what you have been getting up to, it has been so good to hear from you.

I got a very special delivery yesterday! I made a photo album of our adventures at Dolphin House and it arrived yesterday, so I enjoyed looking at all of the photos again and now have it as a reminder of a great week. If you have checked your e-mails you might have seen that I sent you a link to all the Dolphin House photos for you to look at. Have a look and share them with your family so that they can see all the great things you got up to.

I am now making a photo album of all the things that my family are getting up to during the lockdown, so that we can look back on it in the future as a reminder. Could you make a lockdown memory scrapbook or photo album of the things that you are getting up to? It would be a lovely keepsake for the future.

The lessons on BBC Bitesize today include a reading lesson on ‘To Be a Cat’ by Matt Haig, a weekly maths challenge and wellbeing lesson on starting secondary school. Follow the link and click on Year 6/P7:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

Remember to login to Sumdog, Active Learn and ReadingWise to play the games and activities that have been set for you. You have until 3pm today to take part in the maths, grammar and spelling challenges that have been set on Sumdog. I will announce the winners on Monday.

Monday 20th April

Good morning everyone,

It is the beginning of term 4 and your final term in Primary 7! Can you believe it? I know I can’t! I hope that we can still do lots of fun things this term even though we are not in the classroom, and make it a final term to remember. Do you have any ideas of things you would like to do to make it a term to remember?

I hope you have enjoyed the Easter holidays and the fantastic weather we have been having. I have been making the most of the sun shining and have been spending as much time in the garden as possible. It was so nice yesterday that we even managed to get the paddling pool out! I have been enjoying watching the butterflies and bumble bees flying about the garden and the blossom appearing on the trees in my street.

Last week I kept myself busy by making Easter crispy cakes and Mini Egg fudge with Emilie, which both tasted delicious. I have been eating far too much chocolate too! I have been trying to keep active though by skipping every day and going for a few walks in the sunshine as well.

I am missing you all and would like to know what you have been getting up to over the Easter holidays, so your task today is to send me an e-mail to tell me what you have been doing. I would really like to hear from you, as I haven’t heard from some of you for a while now. What have you been doing to keep busy? Have you been making the most of the good weather? What do you miss about school? What are you enjoying about being at home? You can also post on your blog too.

Remember to log in to Sumdog, Active Learn and ReadingWise to take part in the games and activities that I have set up for you.

Have a great day!

Monday 13th April

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well and have had a great Easter. My husband has had a few extra days off work this weekend so we have been making the most of it and having lots of family fun. We have been eating too much chocolate, going for family walks in the sunshine (keeping a safe distance from others), playing in the garden, decorating eggs and making some Easter crafts. Emilie has been learning to ride her bike so that has been keeping us busy too!

Last week Mrs Govans set you all a challenge to create a ‘Wishlist Jar’, so we decided to create one for our family. Emilie’s first wish is to go to the beach, build a sandcastle and paddle in the water. My wish is to give my mum a hug and my husband and I both wish that we could go to our favourite restaurant for something to eat. We are looking forward to being able to do all these things when things start to return to normal (whenever that may be). What do you wish that you could do?

I have been continuing with my skipping challenge this week and have been skipping in my garden every day. I can now do 400 skips and am working towards completing 1000 skips in one workout by the end of the month. I have also been enjoying having a bit more time for cooking and baking, and have been trying some new recipes. The other night I tried a new recipe for macaroni cheese and it tasted amazing! This week I am going to make crispy cakes with Emilie and attempt to make Mini Egg fudge.

I will be in touch again next Monday as we start a new term, the final term of P7. I can’t quite believe it! In the meantime, make the most of the good weather and the extra time you have at home.

Stay safe, take care and keep in touch.
