November questionnaire

School Value focusDetermination

Every month in our Home Circles at Catrine Primary School, and in the Welcome Groups at Catrine ECC, we will be focussing on one of our Catrine Values to ensure that our pupils have a solid understanding of them.

Our Values are – Ambition, Determination, Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Teamwork.

We would appreciate your views on what Determination means to you and your family.

Responses will be collated and displayed around our school and ECC to show a shared understanding of our Catrine Values from all stakeholders – pupils, parents and staff.

Thank you.

A reminder that P2 will be visiting the A M Brown Institute this Friday ( 15th November).

P2 will be making a healthy soup and therefore we kindly ask that children bring along a container so they can take the soup home.

Thank you. 😊

No Screen Day

Spending too much time on phones, computers, tablets and gaming devices can affect children and young people’s language and communication skills, sleep, and general health. In turn, this can affect their education and general well-being. Please click on the link below for further information.

Numeracy in P2

P2 have been exploring how numbers are constructed. Some of us used part-whole models and the concrete materials to split our whole numbers into parts. Have a look!

Room on the Broom

P2 and P1 worked in collaboration to design and then create a new broomstick for the witch from ‘Room on the Broom”. We had some very creative designs and had to use lots of skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving to bring our ideas to life. We ended up with some very impressive and original brooms! Well done!

Literacy Open Morning

All parents/carers are warmly invited to the school on Thursday 31 October for our Literacy Open Morning from 9.00 a.m. – 10.30 a.m.

P2 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: My favourite animal

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about their favourite animal. Some ideas might be where they live, what they eat or what they look like but you can include anything. You can decide how you would like to present the talk i.e. poster, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 4th November

Talking Homework Criteria

Below is the checklist for the Talking Homework Project given out to all children. You can see what is expected of your child at each level. Feel free to use this when helping your child prepare their talk.

A Warm Catrine PS Welcome

It was lovely to see our pupils returning to school this morning, looking so smart in their uniforms and full of stories about what they’ve been up to over the holidays.

We’re delighted to welcome two new members of staff to Catrine PS – Mr Craig Speirs is a Classroom Assistant who will be working predominantly with our upper school pupils, and Miss Jill Andrews is a BA4 student from UWS who will be teaching alongside Mrs McKenna in P7 for the next four weeks.

Communication with home/school

In a bid to reduce paper use, instead of sending home newsletters we will be communicating with you digitally – through our school APP, on GLOW and by ParentPay email.

On our GLOW blog you will find regular updates about what we’ve been learning about in school, and it’s also where photos of school events, newsletters and activities, will be shared.

Our school APP is full of useful information about upcoming dates and events.

We encourage you to regularly check our GLOW site and school APP to ensure you are up to date with what’s happening – as we’re a very busy little school ………………….

If you need help accessing any of these services, please contact the school office.

Ordering of school lunches

Please ensure your child’s lunch is ordered on ParentPay by 6.00 p.m. tonight to enable Auchinleck Academy to supply the correct order.

If you require any assistance in ordering your child’s lunch, please contact the school office.

Thank you.
