With Christmas fast approaching, we are all aware of the financial effects of the holiday season on the lives of families in our area. Some families may feel under pressure to show their appreciation to staff in the school and ECC by buying gifts and presents.
Last year the BBC ran a feature about this with the simple message that thank you is enough. We want to share this message with you this year to reassure any parents/carers that are worried about affording a gift for a teacher/staff member in the run up to the Christmas break.
So, just a reminder that a thank you, a card, a handmade token of appreciation and the thought behind these small gestures, is more than enough for us.
Wishing you all the best this festive season,

School Value focus – Determination
Every month in our Home Circles at Catrine Primary School, and in the Welcome Groups at Catrine ECC, we will be focussing on one of our Catrine Values to ensure that our pupils have a solid understanding of them.
Our Values are – Ambition, Determination, Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Teamwork.
We would appreciate your views on what Determination means to you and your family.
Responses will be collated and displayed around our school and ECC to show a shared understanding of our Catrine Values from all stakeholders – pupils, parents and staff.

P2 and P1 worked in collaboration to design and then create a new broomstick for the witch from ‘Room on the Broom”. We had some very creative designs and had to use lots of skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving to bring our ideas to life. We ended up with some very impressive and original brooms! Well done!

Title: All about me
Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk all about them. Some ideas might be family, friends, hobbies, pets, favourite food and places to go but you can include anything. You can decide how you would like to present the talk i.e. poster, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.
Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.
Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 4th November
Below is the checklist for the Talking Homework Project given out to all children. You can see what is expected of your child at each level. Feel free to use this when helping your child prepare their talk.
A Warm Catrine PS Welcome
It was lovely to see our pupils returning to school this morning, looking so smart in their uniforms and full of stories about what they’ve been up to over the holidays.
We’re delighted to welcome two new members of staff to Catrine PS – Mr Craig Speirs is a Classroom Assistant who will be working predominantly with our upper school pupils, and Miss Jill Andrews is a BA4 student from UWS who will be teaching alongside Mrs McKenna in P7 for the next four weeks.
Communication with home/school
In a bid to reduce paper use, instead of sending home newsletters we will be communicating with you digitally – through our school APP, on GLOW and by ParentPay email.
On our GLOW blog you will find regular updates about what we’ve been learning about in school, and it’s also where photos of school events, newsletters and activities, will be shared.
Our school APP is full of useful information about upcoming dates and events.
We encourage you to regularly check our GLOW site and school APP to ensure you are up to date with what’s happening – as we’re a very busy little school ………………….
If you need help accessing any of these services, please contact the school office.
