Whiteflat Outdoor Learning

Today was outdoor learning day and Whiteflat did iMovies with Miss Burleigh and Miss Robb. First of all we went to p4/5s classroom and split into groups. Then we got some paper for our story board and went outside. We planned out the iMovie on the story board then got the props we needed. After we got the props we started filming. Some groups filmed it all in one but others did it with different clips put that they would put together. When everyone finished filming we went inside to edit it. Lastly we added some sound effects. Then we were ready to show them off.

P2 Class Talk Homework Project

Title: My favourite animal

Pupils have been given a project to prepare and give a short talk about their favourite animal. Some ideas might be where they live, what they eat or what they look like but you can include anything. You can decide how you would like to present the talk i.e. poster, photographs, bringing in items from home etc.

Children should practise their talk at home in order to be able to fluently talk to the class, they might want to use notes on paper to help them remember their talk.

Talks should be ready to be heard for Monday 4th November

The Three Little Pigs

Today Primary 1 & Primary 2 worked together to create a new house for The Three Little Pigs. They had to make sure that they worked as a team, their house could stand up by itself and was strong enough not to be blown down by the Big Bad Wolf.

We have had a fantastic first week in Primary 1 exploring lots of different resources. We have also been very creative in the construction area, went to gym for the  first time and played with some of the toys.

Please ensure you put your child’s name on all of their clothes to help us to prevent any mix-ups. Thank you!

We were very excited to visit the play park, followed by a trip on the boat to Chimp Island. Then we headed over to Lemur Land & finally we rounded our day off by having a shot on the Astroglide slide.

Digital Learning

The digital learning committee were learning about Keynote. They created their own Keynotes, all about the people in their group.

Stuart and Kerr started to create an iMovie documenting our Digital Learning Journey so far. They have been interviewing the children and Mrs Govans about the use of Digital Technology within our school.

P1 & P2/3 Fire and Rescue Visit

Today we had some visitors from the Fire Station in Kilmarnock.

We learned that fire fighters have to wear a helmet, a jacket, boots that are joined to trousers, gloves and a balaclava. They are made from a special material that means they don’t burn as quickly. We got to try some of them on.

If you see a fire you should call 999.

Chinese Dragons

As part of our Chinese New Year topic, we teamed up with Margaret from the Maidsafe Foundation. Primary 1 drew pictures of a dragon, Margaret took them away and used a laser cutter to put them on to a different media. Margaret showed us videos of the laser cutter in action and then we used tissue paper to create our own dragon sun catchers.

Digital Learning

Today we were learning about the use of QR codes and Keynote.  The  P1 children in our committee chose some of their favourite books from the reading area in their class. Some of the older children then created iMovies of them reading the book. They then uploaded their video into a Sway, copied the link and created a QR code. They then stuck the QR code on to the book. This allowed the other children to scan the code and have an audio recording of the book read to them. The P1 children had great fun listening to the stories this afternoon. The rest of the committee designed their own characters and created an animation using Keynote.

Buddy Visit

Today some P6s went down to the nursery to meet their buddies. We got to join in with some of the activities and got to play outside with them. We also got to talk to our buddy and find out more about them.

We are looking forward to having them come up to visit us at school.

Digital Learning Committee Update

Today the Digital Learning Committee joined up with the Inclusion Committee. They demonstrated to all of the members in the Inclusion Committee and some of the teachers how  Immersive Reader can be used to support their learning.  The Primary 7 children can’t wait to show Mrs McKenna the new translate function, to help with their French.

We then went on to look at Internet Safety in preparation for Safer Internet day on Tuesday 5th February. The children have prepared a SWAY to share the importance of Internet Safety with everyone at home, a PowerPoint to share with the learners at assembly and posters to put up around the school.
