Today the Modern Languages Committee Group were learning about New Year in France and ‘La fête des Rois’.
We learned how to say Happy New Year in French (Bonne Année) and made ‘Bonne Année’ cards, as the French tend to send New Year cards rather than Christmas cards.
Next we learned about the festival ‘La fête des Rois’ (King’s Festival). The festival takes place in France on the 6th January and commemorates the Three Kings finding the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. As part of the festival people eat a special cake called ‘la galette des Rois’. The cake has a small object hidden inside (a bean or ceramic charm) and the person who finds it is the winner and has to wear the crown, becoming King or Queen. We then made our own crowns which looked fantastic!
